The Old Testament, was transcended by the New Testament. Hence the terms, old and new. The Old Testament is about works and law, the New Testament is about grace and mercy.

Jesus says he desires mercy, more than sacrifice.

Also, He states that the 2 "laws" that fulfill all the others are to love the Lord with all the heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

The rest of the ten commandments would most likely be ways we would act in loving our neighbor as ourself. But it would not be because it was a rule, it would be because of love.

I think because the first "Christians" had no written New Testament, and were Jews, the Old Testament remained as a teaching tool in the services. Also, they used the OT prophesy to prove to others that Jesus was the Messiah.

As instruction in the way of life and faith, the teachings of Jesus supercede it, and the study of Jesus teachings alone, are beyond sufficient.

The Ten Commandments are part of the Bible and part of God's word. But as believers under the New Testament we do not obey the Ten Commandments because Jesus has fulfilled these commandments on our behalf and has taken away the curse (ie judgement) of the law (ie the ten commandments) from us. In fact the Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 3:10 that those who do (not disobey) the works of the law are under the curse of the law. We are now under grace and truth and not the law (John 1:17)

Believing and obeying the Ten Commandments goes directly with what Christ teaches. Christ did not change the law, just the works of the law...You must know the difference between the Laws, statues and ordinances to be obedient to God, following Christ.

The ten commandments are part of the Old Covenant Law given to the Jews through Moses. According to standard New Testament teaching, the death and resurrection of Jesus abolished the need for the Old Covenant and created the New Covenant.

In this covenant, the requirements of the Law have been fulfilled by Jesus for us. This covenant is written in our hearts (when we believe sincerely) and if we allow ourselves to be led fully by the Holy Spirit we will fulfil and obey the spirit of the Law and more, willingly from the heart without great effort.

So the ten commandments are not to be kept as laws, but to be fulfilled nevertheless.

If Jesus has said that the ten commandments didnt matter: I would think he meant: I have the latest message from God so pay heed to this.

Rather than: The ten commandments are a farce!!

Theyre not a farce..any one with some common sense would know.

But the point is...when Microsoft puts out an updated OS to IE...they tell u not to use the previous one...cause its outdated with the coming of an update!

Moses updated David
Jesus updated Moses...
Muhammad updated Jesus

thats how it works. Now what I said last might be upsetting for Christians and even insulting. But it isnt an insult to Jesus. Its just that every time God sent a new messenger..people of the previous scripture made fun of him alot.

So goes the history of man...belittleing what he knows not

Dear friend,
Jesus didn't say they were wrong. He saisd they pointed to the sinful nature of the man, but they don't give eternal life. Jesus often quoted the Old Testament, acepted the commandements, and fullfilled them all. Only through faith in Him, we can have eternal life and peace with God. The ten commandements can show you are not able all by yourself to satisfy the justice of God, but you need a substitute. That's Jesus! Praise God. That's your bridge to the heaven.

What? The Bible gave us the Ten Commandments to live by and we should strive to keep them. Will we fail? Of course - we are imperfect, not perfect. But we have a New Covenant - the Lord Jesus Christ. With His help, we can easily keep the ten commandments and strive to live a godly life. Without Jesus, there will only be darkness and we will serve the devil.

Have you ever read the 10 commandments? 8 of them are basic laws for any society, 2 of them are religious. No killing your fellow man and no stealing and such. These are the basic building blocks of any civilized society. Look into any culture you want, and they will have the same rules. Even Jesus summed them up to "Love God, love your neighbor".

I think even many non-Christians, including Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. believe the morality of the 10 Commandments is valid.
We all want love & respect from others.
