I wanted to have natural aloe vera juice; the one I bought has sodium benzoate. Does this mean, the juice is not a 'healthy' 'green' product? What are the bad effects of such a preservative?

So many products contain or are treated with this preservative, most often it is used to retain freshness and colour, potatos and vegetables have this added to keep the fresh colour, and potatos are done this way to keep them from going brown.

Most all of other foods have it in to extend it's shelf life, and some use it to do like the first repondant said , as an
antibacteria and aids in the shelf life of preserved or cooked foods.

It's just used to kill all the yeast and other bacteria that can accumulate in drinks such as this "Aloe Juice." Trust me, you want it in there.
