well, you could tell her that your house is a non-smoking house and that the designated area for smoking is outside...but it is cold outside, but really, there is almost no way to tell a smoker to go outside without offending them these days, just be polite about it, let her know that this is your home, and not her home, and you prefer the smoking to be outside, if she can't listen, maybe she should find a better suited place for herself to say.

There are basically two possiblities to your question and it depends upon your age and home ownership:

1. If you are under the age of 18 or you are living with your parents: You must go to your parents and talk to them. If you are underage.. then you have no right to approach your Aunt about this matter. If you are living with your parents (and over 18) then you are not making the rules in the home and again, you need to talk with the people who do own the home and thus 'make the rules'. Tell your parents (or owners of the home) that you suspect that your aunt is smoking in the home and this makes you uncomfortable. List your reasons and be honest and non-emotional about it. Getting angry will not solve anything and only make the environment in the home more difficult. What ever decision your parents make you will have to abide by. After all it's their home.

2. If you are older than 18 and you do not own the home, then see answer one. Now we've determined you own the home and thus you can make the rules. Find a time that you can speak with your aunt in a private setting, do not confront her in front of others. Explain to her that you are trying to make your life and your home 'smoke free'. Tell her that you would appreciate it if she would not smoke in the home. Be prepared for her to deny smoking in the home and unless you've actually seen her do it... it could be the smell is from her clothing and such. Explain that since your family has decided to stop smoking you are more sensetive to the smell and would appreciate it if she would use the laundry more often to keep the lingering smell of smoke out of the house. Be professional, calm and firm. Then give her a chance to change her habits. If they continue... confront her again, this time tell her she can no longer smoke in the house. If she continues.. confront her again and give her a time period to stop or leave.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Simply explain to your aunt that you have just stopped smoking recently and the temptation is far too great and you would appreciate her to smoke outside of the house. If no one else in the house smokes inside, then your aunt should have more respect for the non-smokers to smoke outside. This isn't being rude on your part, it's being rude on hers. She should have enough sense to understand that if she is the only one smoking, it's polite to do so outside. The nicest way to inform her is to let her know you are doing very well with stopping smoking and would appreciate if she would help support you by smoking outside. Thank you and good luck to you.

I personally, would go to the nearest clinic and pick up every pamphlet or brochure I could get on the health risks associated with smoking and especially second hand smoke, because not only is smoking harmful to the user it's also harmful to others around the user and you or any member of your family could develop cancer just from second hand smoke. Leave these papers out where she will be certain to see them. This may be an approach that will make her get the picture and help educate her on what she is doing.

Just tell her that you quit smoking recently, and it is a real temptation for you to have the smell in the house, but really it is up to your mom to tell her something. I smoke too, but I go outside where I can relax...I don't know where you live, but maybe she could go outside to smoke.

better yet try to get her to stop if you quit 6 months ago why can't she?
it's just a weakness and it's not the most healthiest thing to do. so be a good family member and help her to quit if she does not want to.
just simply tell her she can't smoke in the house it is your house right because you don't believe in it anymore oh and stay strong no relapse

Tell her that if she doesn't stop smoking that she will have to leave the house.

Or just simply explain it to her that you just kicked the habbit yourself not too long ago and you don't want to be tempted by her smoking in the house and near you.

You can talk to her gently but firmly. Explain that smoking is not allowed in your house and she needs to take it outside. And don't leave butts in your yard either, you don't like littering in your yard. It's YOUR house, YOUR rules. If she becomes offended, she needs to move.

the only way to deal with this is out right .....tell her you don't allow smoking inside the home, and you would prefer her to go outside and smoke, end of story if she's not happy with that wave her good by.
