What is used to stop bleeding if one cuts to much off?

Hi Dennis...generally the quick will remain in the same place rather than recede. Here's a step-by-step instruction guide with photos on how to properly trim a cats nails. If there's bleeding you use styptic powder (most pet stores carries this)

well its not a nerve, it's a blood vessel called the quick. it will recede, but usually a cats nails do not get so long that the quick grows. And another good thing is you can always see the quick when cutting a cats nails. Unlike dogs, who may have black nails. You can use flour, cornstarch, and/or a bar of soap rubbed on the bleeding nail to stop it.

depends on how much you cut off , if it were like an inch or so you might need stiches
