In the eyes of law, the fate of ladies is the same as that of men. No difference there, as all are equal before the law. Their fate depends on whether they are innocent or guilty. Although judges tend to be a little lenient in awarding punishments to ladies who have children to look after, although they are guilty of heinous crimes, e.g. Nalini.
In the eyes of males, the fate of women depend on the character of the males and women's personal equation with them. If the male is a good guy and both have a good rapport, it is peace and happiness for the woman. If however, the male is a crook or there are problems of adjustment between the man and the woman, the fate of the woman is bound to be pitiable.
