That's depending on the domains you want to use that electricity, because there are a lot of ways to produce electricity as to consume it. In fact it is (and should be) very simple to produce electricity, as the way it is valued and used.
The only thing which separates the methods is the QUANTITY of electric energy.
It's not the same thing to light up a flashlight bulb or LED,or to power a industrial electric engine (motor) for mechanical work.
The basic and most quantitative method is to use a generator (which , yes implies FERROUS ALLOYS) which have a magnetic core carbon-iron based, used as magnetic circuit (they conduct very well the magnetic field, but they are specially made to isolate the convective currents.
The idea is simple to use in various ways, thing is to pass one (electro)magnet in front of a coil with (without) ferrous core. You can imagine from here a lots of ways to put it or to make it work with something.
For instance instead of using common generator(alternators) you can take one coil and insert in side of the spirals a bar of permanent magnet and with alternative movements of back and forth you can get electricity. The strongest the magnet, the strongest the electricity will be.
For easy lab electricity you can take some jucy fruits(apples, oranges, pineapples, etc) and insert in them two electrods with some distance with respect to each other, one made from zinc and other from copper. Colect the energy gathered by the potential differential, and voila:).

Ferroalloys generaly are giving A.C current, meaning thet's alternative and is not good for aparatus wich use Direct Current. But with this method you can get a direct current fairy easly.
Good luck:)

there are 3 basic forms of energy electrical, mechanical and magnetic. you need to have at least 2 from the above to get the third one. for ex. Motor converts Electrical and magnetic energy to mechanical energy(Rotation), similarly windmill converts rotational(mechanical), and magnetic energy both to electrical energy with the help of generator. This is usually a generator which can also be called as dynamo in small applications. To make the generator rotate you'll use the help of following 1) Steam - Water heated to steam- using coal or nuclear fission or bio fuel(Thermal power plant, nuclear power plant, bio plants) 2) using water directly- (hydro power plants) 3) geothermal energy- using the hot gas which comes out of earth and using it as steam.(geothermal plant). 4) Renewable energy- Wind Mill , Solar , Hybrid (Both together wind and solar) you can google all these headings and know complete operation

Like more details.

All generators and alternators have ferroalloys(magnets).

The new thing is using tides but it is complex.
