She is quite young but I think she will do fine. If she has a problem with her motherly instinct kicking in after the delivery of her first puppy, then you can put the pup on her teat to nurse and that should kick in a chemical in her body to make her take care of that puppy and the rest when they arrive. Go to this website - http://www.debbiejensen.com - it is very informative.

I have noticed several of the responders think it is OK for her to be pregnant at only 10 months.
She is too young. It is a major danger to her, she is about the equivalent of a 13 year old child in terms of her body development. As you have already discovered, they can become pregnant any time they are in heat.
You will need to try to keep her body supplied with plenty of calcium (yogurt, cottage cheese).
The development of babies will put a huge strain on her body, she is still growing and developing herself. Much needed nutrient will be spread between her and her babies, one or the other will get shorted.
Check with your vet for supplements for her. Plan NOW on what to do in case of an emergency. Find out which vet is on call the week she is due, if there are complications you do not want to be trying to find a vet while you are both under stress.
Try to have everything ready for her to deliver, so all you will have to do is comfort her during labor. Definitely make arrangements to be with her the entire time she is in labor.
This is a wonderful site, it covers Chihuahuas----but it will work for your baby also.

I have an 11 month old in her 2nd heat, so it is very possible for yours to have had her 1st heat as early as 6 months. She is your dog, I would imagine you would know.

specific if the male inpregnantes her she is at poor threat. final summer time I had a stunning little foster Chihuahua that bred with a Sheltie. The puppies had to be taken each week early by skill of c-section because of the fact they have been too great and she or he replaced into having hassle respiratory. 2 have been nonetheless born 2 died interior an afternoon. One died at 8 days. The dam stuggled to make it, yet she died too. Had she of been surrendered earlier they might have finished a spay even nonetheless she replaced into pregnant, yet she replaced into too a methods long gone while she got here in. Have your female spayed good away. i does no longer desire that on every person no longer to point any undesirable canines.

I doubt that your 10 month old dog is on her second cycle. Female dogs only have cycles twice a year. If she had her first cycle at six months, it's unlikely that she's in heat again four months later.

yes they can some times have what is known as a dry heat it happened to my ***** she had a first season when she was just 6months old and then had another season at 11months and i have a dog both same breed and he mated her and i took her to the vets and had her injected as the vet said she was to young and could reject the pups when born the best time and the safest time to breed is in the third season then they need to have a least two season before you mate them again to but it has happened and you have to cope with it you will just have to keep a close eye at all times and mind she dont lie on one of the pups i sleep at nite with mother and pups rite by my side untill they are two weeks old but realy its not fair to your dog she is far to young to be haveing pups what would you think if you heard of a 12 yr old girl haveing a baby not rite to young only pups them selves

Yes, she's smuch too young. Her body's not even through developing yet. You could be doing irreversible damage to her skeletal structure. Puppies also are usualy not mentally equipped to be good mothers, so be prepared to look after the litter. You should alert your vet when she's close to whelping in case she needs to go in.

i don't think it is too young for her to have her puppies. My dog is having her puppies any day now and she was only one her 2nd heat cycle when she got pregnant. So I think she'll be fine.. but she'll probably be scared since this is her first litter ever. Just talk sweetly to her and rub her back and neck to soothe her.

If she is 10months old I doubt this is her 2nd heat cycle. The best time to breed a dog is her 2nd or 3rd cycle. She might not have problems whelping, but what you have to worry about is her rejecting the pups. 10months is like a 13yr old haveing a baby. she is still to imature and a puppy herself and she might reject the pups.
