I had to laugh when I read the question the first time, I thought you were talking about a Maine Raccoon, as most people put cat after coon. Sorry you will have to wait and see as the kitten grows, even a vet could not tell for sure at this point. Maine Coon Cats get quite large which is really the only difference that you have from a tabby in the early stages of a kittens life. Maine Coon Cats while not rare, are a breed on to themselves and can be lots of fun. I hope you do have one.

Good Luck

A Maine coon is a large, lazy cat. He has long hair and a thick tail that looks like a raccoon's tail. I don't know about Kittens, but adult Main coons like to lounge around - not too energetic. They wil stay in the same room with you, but they are not lapcats.

I have a cat who is part Maine coon. He is good, tempered and very coopertive in cat terms. he even lets me walk him on a leash. (I don't want him to be outdoors without control so that he remains safe). If you bother him, he will give you 3 vocal warnings before acting out. He meows a lot when he wants attention, but often does not like to be held. He plays for a short time, then loses interest. His favorite game is "catch me if you can". It's funny, but very annoying when he runs out of the house. He will run away from you, the lie down to wait for you to catch up. As soon as you reach down to pick him up, he runs in the other direction and waits again until you almost have him. Then he runs back to his original position and waits for you. He needs his daily dose of loving. He will hound me until I start scratching around his neck and ears and he licks my hand very methodically. Then he gets bored and walks away. To a certain extent, he is trainable. He knows to sit and he knows to wait until I give him the okay to eat. I believe he has a tpical Maine coon perslonality. Hope this helps

Does your cat look like this? Then it is a Maine coon cat.

I've heard that Maine Coone's chirp ... not just when they see a bird or moth ... but they chirp & chirrup to their people.

So, if your little one starts making odd noises to you, then this could be another verification that he or she is a Maine Coone.
