can i use a transformer instead of my charger with the same output to charge my phone?

if not whats the difference?

NO! A charger is much more than just a transformer. Basically its a regulated DC power supply, where a transformer just steps down (or up) an AC voltage. you will most likely fry the phone if you try.

Does it have the same characteristics? (Output/Input current, voltage, power). If not you will fry the battery or phone
