when an animal dies there are many changes that occur. Sometimes the eyes do turn a differant color because of no air reaching the brain. As far as the tongue the dog probably bit down on it and caused it to discolor. What kind of dog was it? Was it a deep chested dog??(Big dog) big dogs can die from bloat and sometimes it is sudden and other times it is slow and painful. Take to the vet and have an autopsy if you can afford it and that will put your mind at ease and give you closeure.

The bright green eyes bother me. Can't come up with a good reason for that. However, several thing can cause a dog to die like this. Kidney failure is the most common. Next heart attack or stroke. Poison seems wrong because in dogs it would take time. The only poison that comes to mind would be Anti-freeze, but again unless he got a lot of it suddenly, that should not happen.
Dogs like the smell of anti-freeze and the sweet taste.
Sorry, hope you find out.

I don't know why, but maybe your vet can help you. It may have been caused by a diseased mosquito or flea, but if you describe it to your vet I'm sure he/she may know why.
