While Jesus was alive...that is before He gave His life for us and rose again, we were still under the law. The price for our sin had not been paid and it was not...FINISHED.

We are now under grace. NO that does not give us an excuse to sin more...if anything, we will not want to sin because we realize the great price Jesus paid for our sin and that when we sin, we hurt the one that loves us the most. In reality, we have two greater commandments then the law. We are to love the LORD our God with all of our being, and we are to love each other as we love ourselves. There could not be enough laws that would cover all of the things these two commandments cover because if we followed these two, we would not do anything that would hurt another.

the church got taken over by a bunch of stupid gentiles who had never read the torah, or thought it was out of date...there was also a dark period in time where many people could not read, so they could not read it for themselves.... they depended on what the leadership offered them...

you are right.... jesus WAS the Torah, in the flesh, so obeying the Torah, was the same as obeying Him....the only change was the sacrifice for sins, since Jesus had made the final sacrifice, and the temple was destroyed in 70 AD making animal sacrifices impossible. This straying from the Torah is one reason the church has weakened. Returning to the Torah will revitalize the church.

The Christian answer to your question lies in the book of Hebrews. The book of Hebrews was written for this very reason. Most of the early Church was Jewish. The Old covenant was only here to be tutor until the new covenant could be put in place. Christians do not follow the Old Covenant because Jesus Christ fulfilled it. Nobody would be saved if we tried to keep the commandmants with out God's help.

Deu 18:18-19
(18) I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
(19) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Moses was the lawgiver. Jesus is the lawfulfiller. Jesus is the Messiah that is mentioned in Gen 3:15. The bible is about Jesus.

Mat 22:37-40
(37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
(38) This is the first and great commandment.
(39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
(40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

This is a very complex question that truly cannot be answered completely here.

I recommend you go to the web site of my mentor, Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum, and read his paper titled, "The Law of Moses and the Law of Messiah." Click here:

Then scroll down to the article.

Peace.
