I have an old portable TV which currently works perfectly well, however it has no scart socket (yes, it's that old!!) will I be able to attach a digibox to it somehow when the analogue signals are switched off, or will it have to be binned?

Yes. All digiboxes have the option for an RF-based connection to your set. They have to have RF capability or else you wouldn't be able to plug the aerial into the digibox.

Any digibox will have a list of connection diagrams supplied with it.

You can buy a SCART to RF converter from electronics shops. Plug the scart in one end and the other into the telly but you'll need to tune the telly to recieve the signal just like you do normally. Try Maplins first for the converter.

Get a mini video digicam and use the television as a secure practices exhibit screen. a chum of mine put in a mini digicam right into a lamp fixture on suitable of a railing submit on his front porch, and ran the sign to a small black and white television in his kitchen interior the back of his residing house (this is a reasonably great residing house). That way, while he's interior the kitchen (the place he spends greater than a number of time), he can see who's on the front door until eventually now figuring out regardless of if to respond to it.

Be cheaper to buy an integrated TV when the switchover happens as you'll never get the TV fixed anyway
