My weaten puppy poops in his crate at night. I have it just big enough for him to lay down. What to do?

having 2 dogs myself..1. Feed the dog at least 2 hrs before bed time and then take him out if that's what you do prior to putting to bed...2. Liter box train..I did that with a small dog and he used it faithfully never had a problem.....3. Get bigger sleeping quarters for the dog..leave the door/flap open so it can go on paper/pee pads/liter box. u can use the dogs own stuff (lol) put it in an area you want the dog to go it will sniff it out and usually go in that area..Keeping a pet locked up (if you will) is not good at night..Although they can hold it for sometime it is uncomfortable for them..I suggest a little more freedom for the dog, more patience on your part to train the dog exactly what u want it to do..Once done no problems Good Luck nice queston..others will learn sometning from the various anwers you will recieve..

Locking up for your dog is very wrong, even in night is very worst!. You need give your puppy lot of freedom so it will helps training your house dog. Your puppy can sleep with you in your bed, if your puppy really need to go during night, use the training pad near the bed, your puppy will know.

Puppy's are like baby's. You need to let the puppy out throughout the night to do his business. You can't just put the puppy in this crate and forget about him.

for every month old. they can hold their bowls for one hour. so if your puppy is 4 months old (and is not yet sleeping through the night without pottying- like you said) you should get up and take your puppy out in the middle of the night. yes, it is a hassle, but it was your choice to get a puppy, a puppy is like a baby.

also, try feeding her/him earlier, and no treats within 2 hours of bed time!

You don't say how old the puppy is. Very young puppies cannot hold their bowels as long as adult dogs. Sounds like maybe you're feeding him too late in the day.
