I was wondering if anyone has an innovative way of capturing a kitten in a feral colony without using a trap. I've tried feeding them and petting them but damn kittens are fast. Using a trap, I would probably get the big cats first which isn't what I want. My 6 month old kitten needs a friend and I might as well give a feral a good life rather than live on the street. So anyone have an innovative way of catching him or her? Thanks.

Fishing net with a long long handle-about 8 feet. Make one by going to sporting goods and then to the hardware store.

Thye make smaller traps. It is a squirrel trap and I use them all the time. The big cats do not go into it, just the kittens. Throw a towel over it and pop a little tuna in and you are in business.
I use them pretty much weekly!!

The fishing net works pretty well too!! We use them at the shelter to deal with the feral cats. Just be sure you have good gloves to grab it with, because you have to get it out of the net!!!

Ok, here's a little idea....
rig up a cage, yes, I said cage, with the door open just enough to let a kitten in, NOT a cat. (You can use a bungee cord to keep the door from swinging, attached to the side of the cage, and to the door.... also, put something small between the door and the opening.. to keep the door ajar. Say.. maybe a small brick, or stone, just large enough for a kitten to squeeze in.) Put food & water inside, and before you know it, you'll have yourself a kitten.
Also, When you do catch one, PLEASE make sure you keep it away from the kitten you already have-- until you can take it to the vet to be tested for worms and leukemia! You certainly do not want to infect your little one with something. It may take a while for the new little kitten to becoma accustomed to being away from it's pack, and in with strangers. Be patient, and careful.
Good luck to you and the new kitties.

It's a really nice idea to take in a feral to 'save it' but they have amazing ways of making it in life on their own. The bad temperedness and distrust could be strongly bred into them so it might not make the best pet anyway. Perhaps going to the local shelter to save one from death row would be a good alternative.
