Does anyone know how to get out of paying a speeding fine? I was flashed doing 40 last night in a 30 zone (this is a busy road that I have always thought was a 40 zone and have been using regulary for 4 years!)

I feel really stupid getting caught but really had no clue that it was a 30 zone - all my own fault granted but all the same!

I think there are ways to challenge the fine but not sure how to do this does anyone else know how to do it? There are online solicitors who will claim to be able to do this for a fee but I don't know if these actually work?

Any help would be great - thanks!!

Contest the ticket in court and tell the judge you don't want to pay the fine. The judge will gladly give you a few days in jail instead of a fine.

There is so much urban legend in relation to this......
If you refuse to identify who was driving the vehicle the conditional offer of a £60 fine and 3 points will be withdrawn and a prosecution will ensue. It is not simply enough to say it contravenes human rights. Yes, under Art 8 you have the Right to Respect for Private and Family life, however, this is not an absolute right and due to the amount of people being killed or seriously injured the Magistrate will direct you to identify the driver. If you don't, you will be held liable.
To claim that you thought the road was a 40 mph limit wont work either. It is signposted and the signs will have been checked prior to the detections commencing and terminating...no luck there.
In 10 years of speed detection I am aware of 1 person who took it to court....and lost, incurring legal costs as well as the fine.
If you are willing to perjure yourself and risk a criminal record, you COULD say it was a member of family or a friend living outside of UK. Be prepared for the Police to check with the local police of where ever you say they come from, also flight manifests and any other way of checking if you are telling the truth. That can be a risky way of going about it....could end up in deep trouble.
Best thing to do is take it on the chin and slow down a wee bit.

thats not really a good reason why you should contest it! what would you do if you ran someone over! just say " sorry officer i thought it was ok to do that!" hmmmm i think not! do you not think speed limits are there for a reason! and the excuse of you have been driving on this road for 4 years! even more the reason you should know the speed limit on this road!
serves you right and stop trying to worm you way out of it! - but there again you asking this sort of question on here shows what u are like so i dont know why i am surprised you cant face up to things you have done yourself!
i hope no one you love becomes a victim of a hit and run or any traffic related incident for that matter!!!!!!! because then you might know how it feels!

There is a path to appeal, but stating you didn't have a clue it was a 30 zone doesn't sound like grounds for letting you off. Now if you had a dying or heavily pregnant girl in the back of your car you were rushing to hospital may help your case, but not I'm afraid being clueless!

If you appeal a fine they will make you pay the full amount, however if you just pay it you will usually get away with the half amount. It's usually futile to contest a speeding fine especially if they have a camera film of you breaking the law. If the signs were there saying what speed you should go and you choose not to see them you are still breaking the law. Ignorance of it is no defence.

If you have been driving all these years why are you challenging the speed limit in a residential area? Even I know that it's 30 and I dont even drive. Im sorry but you broke the law and like everybody else you should pay the fine. why should you be allowed to get sway with it? Would you still be claiming your innocence if you had knocked a child down and killed them?

It's just carelessness.

some police forces do enable 10% + 2mph, some do no longer. a minimum of one in Wales facilitates no leeway in any respect, gaining it the nickname "site visitors taliban". seems such as you have been caught, if so you will likely acquire an grant of a fixed penalty of three factors and £60 by the post. they're going to music you down by skill of way of the employ corporation.

Usually when someone challenges not paying a speeding ticket, it is because they think they WERE NOT speeding. You admitted that you were. A part of driving is to pay attention to the road signs, which you are saying you haven't bothered to do in four years. I sincerely hope that I do not meet you on the road if you are that unattentive. Pay the ticket.

If you're not asking for dishonesty or trickery (people may offer you dishonest means of doing this) -- here's the only thing you can do -- and this is honest and completely above board.

When you go to the traffic court ask, Plead, for MERCY. If you are well dressed and polite, the judge will likely listen to your story (and then may or may not be merciful)- this is your only hope unless you can appeal on a technicality (such as the zone is posted as a 40mph zone ).

PAY IT & drive with care in future, if you have been using that route for four years, then you should be aware of the speed limits
