Believe it or not, many Americans believe in freedom for all. The Great Wall of China was a wall to keep out invaders. For a long time, it has been depleted enough, and it was never finished, that its only value is tourism or as a work of art and and feat of engineering. There are no calls for it to come down from anyone as far as I know. The Berlin Wall was put up to keep people in, and worked pretty well in doing that. It symbolized the denial of self determination and freedom, and as such it was despised round the world, especially in the USA. Many tried to go over the wall and died trying. It was a blight on humanity that even the Russians had to agree and take it down. It was too embaarassing to keep for them. It is interesting that people in the usa now are thinking of putting up a wall on the border with Mexico,which if done would be to our eternal shame.

Nixon knocked down the invisible wall of ignorance and prejudice and hatred that separated us from China because he realized we should not pretend 1.5 billion people do not exist just because they have a different form of government.
this has been a mixed blessing.
Reagan wanted the wall in berlin knocked down so the east berlin people could travel and communicate freely with the world and get out of what was a russian prison system. Most americans agreed with him. ( even the democrats) We did not knock it down but when russian system collapsed under its own weight because communism does not work, they pulled back and let the germans remove it. this has been a mixed blessing.
The purpose of each wall removal was freedom , which is a mixed blessing as we have seen.( darn immigarnts) Now we want to build or own wall to keep out the mexicans. it will be the Great wall of Bush. 2,500 miles long eventually.
The others have explained to you about the structure known as the great wall of China. everyone loves it and nobody wants it down. The great dam of the three gorges will be another amazing engineering feat of China and is almost filled up now. It can be seen from outer space too. China is so big it is bigger than TEXAS. ( that is big)

Even though he managed a good sound bite with the "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" bit, not directly, no. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War and Gorbachev wanted to tone down the conflict, since he had realized the USSR simply couldn't afford it anymore (pouring half your GDP into the military to match an enemy who's only committing about 5% of it's to the same thing is not a winning proposition). Yes, Reagan had upped military spending some while in office, and that contributed to the difficulty the USSR had in keeping up, so he can take some small creadit in that sense, but the decades of committment to the War from from prior administrations, obviously had a lot to do with it, too.

LOL, another bogus question. The Americans did not want to break down the Berlin wall. The Germans did, the Germans wanted a united Germany just like the Koreans are hoping their 2 nations can be united someday.
No one cares about the Great Wall of China as a political barrier, it is one of the 7th Wonder of the World, it is a world treasure not a political tool.

Not sure who has been telling you this nonsense but Americans do NOT want the Great Wall of China destroyed. It is a great monument of immense historic value to the whole world. It is a World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO and many major US companies contribute to the Wall Conservation projects.
As far as the Berlin Wall - it had to come down because it was built to divide the nation and the world. It was a symbol of imprisonment, intolerance and hate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_wall

dont try to suggest they are an evil world empire now
everyone in the west wanted the berlin wall to fall because they wanted the soviet empire to end
