when we got our dog, we didnt get her papers, she is a japanese akita, and we kinda sorta rescued her from a not so good home, she wasnt eating and wasnt being taken for walks, but we have been approached by another japanese akita owner wishing to breed with us, if we were to do so and sold the puppies, would we get in to bother for doing so even if we havent got papers? the ither owner has papers though.

the owners were trying to sell her for 400 quid, but when we went see her she was stuck in the corner of the previous owners house surrounded by 4 screaming kids. and im not saying you need a clean and tidy house to own a dog, but if you had seen this!! i offered them a 150 cos she didnt have papers and they couldnt wait to get the money off me, they told me they dont know about the papers, and didnt care, which to be honest with you neither do i, the thought of some big brute of a dog deflowering my baby scares me lol,the bf was wondering.

When you rescued the dog, was it more of a kidnapping or did the previous owner give it to you? If the owner gave it away, then you should be able to get those papers from him/her. Or, there should be a way to register the dog...

Breeding should be left to experts. I work for a rescue and you would be astonished at the amount of back room breeding that goes on. Akitas are big dogs and often suffer from hip and eye problems which can affect their quality of life. You have to ask yourself why you want to breed. Is it because you hope to make a quick buck out of selling the pups? This plan could easily fall flat with vets bills. Is it for the better of the breed. Then buy yourself two champs and learn all about it fist. If you look at the rescue sites, their are hundreds of homeless Akitas a lot of which are put to sleep at an alarming rate. Why add to this misery? It seems that every other person these days fancies themselves as a breeder. So many unloved dogs already, why make more.

Don't breed this dog. Sounds like you know nothing about breeding, or looking after a pregnant dog or looking after a litter of puppies. Is your dog even old enough? Is she in top physical and mental condition? Are you prepared for the huge vet bills?

Only the very best examples of any breed should ever be bred. This other owner who wants his male used on your female obviously does not have a good akita or he wouldn't even consider using his male on a female without registration papers. The puppies could never be registered and would never be worth much because they'd have no registrations.

This breed has enough problems, serious temperament problems because of irresponsible back yard breeders, please don't add to the problem.

Hi no you wouldn't get in trouble you just couldn't register or put a pedigree on the puppies...If the dog was obtained legally you could ask them for the paper(if on speaking terms)...not always a good thing when there are desputes about the ownerships...But if the dog is legally yours I see no problem apart from the lack of paperwork for your puppies...some people want papers witha dog they buy & others aren't too bothered however this lowers the value of the puppies...Regards Jake

There are countries that are very strict regarding having papers for pets. There are owners who would not mind if you sell them a dog without papers. They may process the papers if they want to.

In our country, if you are a breeder, buyers will ask for papers for the animal. You see, it is in the paper where you would see the variety or the animal lineage. It is like a guarantee that what the breeder is selling is authentic.

If you have the papers, you may even sell the dog at a higher price.

hi there, i dont think you will get into trouble, but if you want to breed her and register the puppies, ie get them papers, you can register her with your local "akita" club for a certain fee, and im sure after that, any pups she has can easily be registered and used as show dogs, breeders, etc, but it shouldnt be any bother, especially if you are not going to show her, for which you would need papers. Like i said, just check with your local dog club and see what they suggest. your vet will be able to give you the details you need. Happy doggy days for you for rescuing her.

You can sell the puppies, but they will not be able to be registered without the papers. That also will make them less valuable
