Theres a couple of options here, but think about it. The future of a child depends on what we choose? Do you agree? What should we as a society do? I know its a parents choice, but some parents don't know how to parent and can and will take both to the extreme. Thanks

Well i think that if your child does something to the extent of spanking then it's necessary but i think that spanking should not be used to often because i think that that teaches your children that it is OK to hit someone so in school they may become more aggressive to other children because of the activity going on in the home. i prefer to ground

It depends on what they are being punished for and how old they are. I was spanked as a child, but when I got to a certain age, I was grounded. Think about it, if you ground a 3 year old, are they really going to care? Probably not, but if you ground a 13 year old, the world is going to end. Obviously you don't over do spanking, because depending on how it's used it probably could be hazardous to a child, but I think both are acceptable in different situations.

well thinking about it i would suggest it is not wholly one or the other. being that spanking is different from beating and grounding different than caging in say a dark closet. i think that grounding with chores and an explanation from the child what he/she did wrong and why it is wrong. i am not against spanking it i think needs to be used at last resort and for the threat of spanking to work one needs to have used it at least once. oh and when one uses spanking i think grounding should also accompany the swat.

Go w/ Spanking, its fast and gets to the point! With grounding, child will create urges and possibly do other potentially bad stuff.......

Grounding is better, as long as you are truly depriving them of privileges, and not sticking them in a room loaded with toys and gadgets. Just as they will be denied good things in the adult world if they create problems, their childhood punishment should reflect a loss of privilege, rather than physical injury.

It depends what age they are, I honestly believe you can't negotiate with or ground a toddler up to the age of 7, there after you can ground them at least then they understand what the results of their action are.

Time out (short grounding) and ground...

Spanking is physcal assault and should not be used as a method of behavior modification, it causes fear to illicit compliance... Fear of physical assault is not a good method of teaching unless thhe lesson you want to teach is intimidation, fear and physical size equals dominance..

well think about it. if another adult did something you thought was wrong and you hit them to teach them a lesson you would get arrested and sent to jail for assault and battery. why would you do that to your child?
