Lord did this symbolic play due to 2 reasons :
1. Symbol of handing over reins to Rukmini means that this beloved is going to drive the vehicle of his life henceforth !
2. There was a practical need for doing this as follows :
King Krishna knew that as soon as Rukmini's father and brothers would know that she is fleeing away with Krishna they will send a small elite and agile army to intercept them. Since they were kings and princes of another kingdom this episode was unavoidable.
Krishna was confident that he will defeat these intercepters but he had a hind sight or a long vision - he wanted to keep the civilian casualty to minimum or nil in this unavoidable battle.
So as a part of his plan he handed over the reins to Rukmini and let her drive the chariot.
When Rukmini's father's army intercepted Krishna's chariot he asked the general "Why are you stopping us ? "
The general belligerently replied "You are kidnapping our princess. The king and princes have asked us to stop you and take her back with force if required."
To this Krishna fearlessly replied :
"I am not kidnapping her. She is herself driving the chariot.
It is you who are intruding on us and interfering in her and my freedom."
The localites and on-lookers heard this diaog.
They were anyway troubled by their king and princes.
They decided it to be prudent to stay out of this battle since they knew how cunning their king was and what Krishna said sounded quite true to them since the evidence was right in front of them.
Thus Krishna not only reduced his opposition by keeping civilians out of the battle and make his victory easy, he also avoided hurting innocents.

The story symbolizes that we must choose God for ourselves. It shows that we must do the spiritual work necessary to reach moksha (the kingdom in this story). Krishna comes to Rukmini and offers her the way out, but Rukmini still has to choose whether or not she wants to truly leave and be with Krishna. She must drive the chariot because she, not Krishna, is in control of this choice. At any moment along the journey from the palace to Krishna's kingdom she has a choice to either keep going, stop, or turn around. This reflects that God, at all times, let's us decide which direction our spiritual journey will take.

Krishna using year chariot has a deep that means. The chariot symbolises the human frame that is confronted with quite a lot of challnges within the wrestle of lifestyles. Arjun is the character soul who's pressured as to the way to or why to combat in any respect. Incidentally, the "reins" are for the horse and "reigns" means to rule over a Kingdom.
Though your English is quite corny, the story seems to indicate that Krishna gave her the right to choose where she would go in the symbolic hand over of the reins.
I guess that's evident to anyone.

Lord is confident that those who loves him are able to join him, but should be in deep desire for it. Else, the world would not be like this. When we creatures are enjoying the momentary enjoyments, Lord likes it because it is his desire. When we need him, he gives the bridals to us and he directs us.
