Just because someone goes to church doesn't mean they're doing it because they want to grow spiritualy or to learn more about God. I should know, because I went through the motions for the first 15 years of my life before God got my attention in a big way. Check out my testimony at the first link below.

Because they're human.
You know, I used to swear like a sailor, up until about a week or two ago. And yes, I was (and am) a Christian. I just didn't feel that it was a sin, because I wasn't insulting others or anything like that.
I realized WHY it was wrong when my husband told me what a friend of ours said about me. I had told this friend that the only thing that bothered me was people taking the Lord's name in vain. I've been trying to break my husband of it for the last four years, lol, and it's mostly working. Anyway, this friend told my husband that he didn't know I was religious.
That was like a punch in the stomach for me. So since then, I've been watching my language. My friends are noticing.
Think of Christians as a work in progress. Some are farther along than others. I'm just beginning, so if you met me, you would probably ask me why I still do some "bad things" (like I still smoke, for example) if I'm a Christian.
I'm not perfect, and I never will be. But I'm trying. That's all any Christian can do.

Because we all 'compartmentalize' the reasons for our actions into 'boxes' that basically mirror the beliefs of our culture as a whole. Most people don't make their own decisions. Namely, the one to go to church.

And what's the concern about cursing. In an appropriate situation, said unexpectedly, it can be really funny. The use of profanity doesn't distinguish one as good or bad. And all bad is on a sliding scale. Lots of bible thumping morons with 'clean' mouths are checking out their friend's boyfriends/girlfriends.

My mother always said, 'you can't trust people who can't say sh_t when their mouths are full of it.'

Plain and simple truth... They do not have a personal relationship with God. They do not allow God to work in their lives or allow God to change them. God can change a willing heart. As soon as a person realizes they are doing something wrong. They and God work on changing that. Then as the person gets a handle on that... They realize that there is even more to work on. OR they just don;t have a handle on it but they and God will be working on it asap. OR they know that God will forgive them no matter what they do. People all to ofter, rely on or take advantage of God's forgiveness. They in the back of their minds know that God will forgive them, so they do it any way. OR you have a teenager that has been raised in the church, believe in God, but haven't taken the Christianity roll yet.

other people don't go to church and might swear and do bad things later. We're all just humans.

I think it depends on their true purpose for going some people go seeking a way to be better, they usually stop cursing and being hypocrites, some people go just to make others happy and aren't seeking change at all so they tend to keep doing the same old things, and some people just think it's OK to keep doing everything they were doing before they even started going.

:) You know the definition of a hyporcrit? its a person who says one thing but dose another...you know who dose that....EVERYONE! A pot somker who hates God can be a hypocrit if he told someone he dosent do pot. (just a random example)why? beacuse just like you were human, were not perfect. No one is. (sept God)
And alot of people came out of pasts where that was there life and just who they were and things are hard to change and break off. Its not as soon as your saved you become holyer then thou to everyone. Thats just jack. Its ok God, you see me as a screw up beacuse I am, you see me as dirty beacuse the things I do/say, beacuse I am, but you have chosen to wash me clean and to forgive me..and even though he says were restored, satan tells us were not ALL the time, and its hard to not beleve it when you have all your past telling you thats who you were, and thats who you are now, when the Bible tells us something diffrient.
Thats the ones that want to and try to follow after God, they stumble sometimes but honestly try.

Others on the otherhand, goodness, dont call yourself a christian if you arnt one. Being a christian means to be Christ Like, and was actualy a tearm given to the early christians as a insult, beacuse he had died on the cross and they thought he was a loon. People these days think its cool to have the title cuz they said a prayer once and then never thought of it again really. Its like me meting someone once saying hay then 2 months latter after not seeing him walking up and acting like hese my best friend, it just dosent work that way, Christianity is two way, and when people live jacked lives like everyone else, then calim it, it gives us a reall bad name, beacuse they shouldnt even be wearing that title themselves.
thats just the way it is.

I guess they want to "trick" people into thinking they are good. Going to church is not what makes a person good. Only Jesus can change a person to want to do right.

Because for some people, it is all an act. They think going to church will get them into heaven.

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
