If they still used electroshock treatments, how many people would be crazy today? I'm mentally disabled, diagnosed bipolar with a personality disorder. I also really don't have any emotions anymore. I feel empty. However, it's all of these special rights activist that have made it so easy for everyone to become crazy to collect a check. Then the ones abusing the system can go buy thier drugs or pay thier BMW payment with it.

There was a Scottish psychiatrist in the 1960's, Ronald D. Laing who made the statement that "The only sane people left in the world were the so called mentally ill." Maybe he was right and they are taking over the world. Seriously, most mental illnesses are organic that is due to a bodily dysfunction like happens in diabetes and this is just becoming recognized by the medical community. Schizophrenia is a scientifically meaningless label and according to the British who have formed a group called the Campaign for the Abolition of the Schizophrenic Label, CASL, it would be better called Dopamine Dysfunctional Disorder, DDD.

First lets use the correct terms. The word your looking for is "Why are so many people suffering from mental disorders?"
Let me correct your numbers. 1/2 the population does not suffer from the bi-polar disorder. 1.6% of the population suffers from the bi-polar disorder.
I don't think you know what bi-polar is so here is a short def: An intense and very disruptive experience of extreme elation, or euphori, possibly alternating with major depressive episodes.
I do believe that medicine is over perscribed. I do believe there are people out there that truely need medicine but some do not.
Who are you working for and why are "crazy" people calling you?

Half the population is "bipolar" because the DSM criteria is ridiculous and doctors just love to give out that diagnosis. I would venture to say that while half the population may think they have or have actually been diagnosised with bipolar, only a small amount of them really have it. If you read the DSM all of us could easily have at least 10 different disorders. But why label yourself. Just live your life and stop focusing on your imperfections. From my own personal experience people (including myself, in the past) get so caught up in a label that they start acting "crazier" than they really are. And maybe the crazy ones are the so called normal people who look around and make stupid statements about how many "crazy" people there are.

I sometimes ask myself that very same thing? In my opinion it seems that either we re getting crazier or more crazy people are coming into the light like never before? Point and case: I met a girl online(platonically) and each time we converse she would make up tons of stories that didn t connect with each other. It kept getting weirder and weirder each time I spoke with her. It went from her being in a fixed marriage her family set up from birth; to her dating a gay guy from a different country all in one breath? Then all of a sudden....poof....she s in love with me? She somehow got my job location from Google Plus (because of the business tab) and called my office several times claiming to be my wife. She would also send pieces of woman clothing there also? That person was a giant ball of crazy only this era could produce. All I can say is stay far away from meeting people online on a personal level.

You need to be careful about laughing about people who have mental emotional disorders! Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder are caused by genetic defects. Whoever said that 1/2 of the people are Bipolar is quite mistaken. The percentage of all people who have mental emotional disorders is about 10% of the population.
You sound like you are 25y/o or younger. If you don't have schizophrenia then you probably won't get that, if you're 25y/o. If you're younger, you don't know yet. People can come down with Bipolar Disorder up until 35y/o, and you don't need a family history of it. Anyone can become depressed up until the day they die.
Also, aren't you too old to laugh at other people's problems, even if you're only 14y/o?

Yes, they're are many of us out here that are, as you put it, nuts!My doctor calls it bi-polar with suicidal tendencies. I also am debilitated by panic attacks. I have agoraphobia and am paranoid schizophrenic. I am taking medication for this, but the Governor of Missouri thinks because I don't earn money. I Should not have insurance! Now I can't afford my medications or to see my psychiatrist. Who are the crazy ones? I know what is wrong with me and can take care of myself IF I had meds. Who"s nuts?

Maybe people are "crazy" because that term is used so loosly these days. Yes there are many mentally ill people out there, but just because they are unlike you does not give you the right to call them crazy and make light of their situation. Next time you answer the phone and a "crazy" person is on the other, maybe you should just be thankful you have it all together and are so damned perfect that you don't need medications or a therapist to make your life better! TREAT PEOPLE WITH RESPECT!!!!!

My Mother and one of my Aunts is bipolar, one of my Uncles is Schizophrenic. And that's just my moms side of the family. On my dads side of the family, almost everyone has an Addictive Personality and/or Anxiety, Depression, or Stress issues. Outside of my family, about half of the people I befriend admit to having a mental disorder, or have a noticeable disorder. I don't think the world is going crazy. I think we've been there for a while now.
