The bible wasn't modified to create the New Testament. The New testament is the continuation of the Old Testament. Much of the Old Testament was the foretelling of things to come. The coming of the Christ was the fulfillment of those prophecies, and the beginning of the New Testament.

what*?!
The bible is inspired of God,so God used human beings to convey his thoughts in writing.
Both the new and old testament are a complete set such that they fit perfectly(2 timothy 3:16). Yes the bible starts with God creating the Earth and putting humans to live and enoy it but humans disobeyed...so this changed everything but God's plan for having perfect humans on earth didn't change,so he promised in a prophecy(Genesis 3:15,16) to save mankind from sin., through a messiah.
The old testament focuses on the israelites, which was God chosen nation and where the messiah was to come from. Then the new testament focuses on the messiah's life, his birth, baptism and death. Then on his disciples and finally on how this messiah would bring God's rulership on Earth and remove all wickedness.
So In Revelation,it ends with how humans will attain perfection again and live on Earth forever just how God intended it to be.
So the complete bible is very accurate and consistent in every way.

The New Testament does not modify the Old... in some ways it explains it, yet Jesus clearly states that the law, as given by God, holds true, and the law, as interpreted by men (his hint to Moses, for instance) may change according to the times. However, it is interesting to know that according to Gnostics and Catars, one of the most "popular" religions in the first centuries of christianity, the Old Testament was supposedly written by an Evil God and Jesus came to give the correct word... But too many people put their hands in both of them

the new testament isnt a correction of the old... nor an alteration... it is an addition, a continuation. the next chapter. you see the old testament tells you of how it was before Jesus, the answer and salvation of men came along. it speaks of Jesus Christ, and has 322 prophecys (im pretty sure its 322) that had to be fulfilled to prove that Jesus was the messiah. The chances of that happening were like, one in 100billion or something ridiculous. in other words, almost impossible, but Jesus fulfilled every single prophecy in proof that He was real and was the son of God, the savior. the old testament can teach us so so much. the new testament explains alot of the old testament so well, and also tells us of what Jesus did, and what we are to do now and gives us an understanding of how we are to live and what Jesus has accomplished for us. it teaches us about our covenant with God, wheras the old testament teaches us of the importance of covenant time and time again.
they are both essential. they equal one important book. God's word is incomplete without both testaments. its like having a 10 chapter book with the last 4 chapters missing... know what i mean?
its a continuation, not a replacement. what Jesus did replaces alot of the old rules and ways and stuff.. but it doesnt erase it all like God made a mistake. it explains God's perfect plan.
you wanted an answer from a true person of faith... i dont know what you would consider to categorise a person in that, but i can tell you i love Jesus with all my heart, study His word, i pray to God and try my best to follow Him with all my heart and soul. i believe in God 100% and love Him dearly. i answered your question from my understanding of the scriptures and what i learned at bible college.
God Bless You

The old testament was a shadow of things to come in the new testament, do a web search on Bible prophecy if you find a good site it will give you dates the prophecies were made and the date they were fulfilled, there are over 300 prophecies in the old testament about Christ and quite a few about Israel that have been fulfilled with 100% accuracy.

Simple. Christians believe God completely screwed up twice. First when he had the flood, then only saved Noah and his family, he felt so bad that he killed everything so horrifically that he gave us all a rainbow to say "I screwed up royally and won't do it again".
Then he f'ed up AGAIN with the whole original covenant. God decided the blood-n-guts, kill them all, murder the children, poke their eyes out, burning bush crap wasn't the way to go, and that LOVE was now in vogue. So the answer to your question is that God royally f'ed up a second time, and corrected himself by writing the new testament.
As a side note, Jews still don't believe in the New Testament. Christians have spent much of the last 2000 years slaughtering Jews and Muslims to show that God is a God of Love and not the Torturer of the Old Testament.

Because, no doubt, the Universe unfolded and evolved further as it SHOULD. As per God's plan. Hence the New Testament became a Natural extension of the Old Testament...

The New Testament is for US all with Jesus dying on the cross to give Us all a chance at Heaven not just the Jews.
