maybe shes reliving her puppy hood..and perhaps it wasnt the best for her..if your bf has the time, let him take her on a walk by himself..that way she will be able to be alone with him and find that he isnt going to hurt her..also, if possible, have him take her overnight..or at least try..you dont want to scare her anymore then she already is..maybe just the two of them together will help her overcome her fear of him..with not having you around as her safety net, she may come around..it doesnt hurt to try..

That person who said you can't teach and old dog new tricks has no idea. Any dog can learn to turn over a new leash no matter what age or how long they have had problems. I discovered The Dog Whisperer show back in June and it has changed me and my dog forever. You should really take a minute to visit the link I post on here. It has video clips and stuff so you can see what Cesar Millan (the host/dog physcologist) can do. There's no dog he can't help!! My dog has a terrible thunder phobia and he is a rabbit/cat/squirrel chaser to boot.... but now since I bought the 1st season of dog whisperer I learned how to handle all his issues and correct them. I'm not going to say there is a magic phrase to make the problems dissapear... the only way to cure them if to put in the time, patience, and work. Good luck to you and I know Cesar Millan will help you. You can even rent his videos at most rental stores.

sometimes dogs can sense something in someone? She was there first; your bf is just going to have to tread slowly not even forcing himself on her by treats; patience and time can overcome a lot ; let her get use to a new person in the picture; how many bf have you brought home already? did one abuse her? Your stubborn old dog has been good to you and now that there is bf you are selecting different adjectives to describe her ; perhaps she senses that you are different b/c of him; it is more than likely it is something you guys have done but didn't realize it as such that created this behavior. Dogs are very perceptive. patience and understanding

now is it all strangers or just your dude, cuz if it's just him, or just guys, she might've come from an abusive pass. my dog used to be like that when we first got him, and we knew that he had been being abused, and i volunteer at a shelter, and a whole lot of them take a while to get used to you before they trust you. You should try and find a source of this action, and take a little personal time with the dog, and then have the guy do the same. You'll have to take things slowly, she's already old, and you never want to push too much on a dog. Patience is the key.

Ever heard the saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks well I would say she won't change she probably more feels he is a threat to "her" family than anything not anything to do with the fact he is nice to her. If she is terrified of him then the only way to treat this is with a lot of patience and treats but it probably won't change.

I saw this on Emergency Vets just the other day........... I can't remember but the dog had a problem much like yours only she was terrified to leave her masters side. They placed her on this medication and she was fine again. You should ask your vet about that (don't bother going, in just ask over the phone).Perhaps they will know, if not try asking another.
