I've found that public speaking and one-on-one conversations can be quite similar. I assume that English is not your native language. Do you think in English or some other language? I know several engineers that need to translate to and from English constantly. That extra step takes time and makes public speaking quite difficult. Here is what I recommend: 1) An english coach; 2) Read novels; 3) Refrain from speaking in your native tongue at all times. Doing these things will improve your personal speaking skills which will improve your public speaking skills.
Ignoring the language issues for a moment, here is my advice concerning public speaking: 1) Know the material; 2) Be confident-If you have any doubt, you do not believe that you know the material; 3) Imagine yourself in the audience during your presentation-What can you do to make your points clearer or more interesting? 4) Rehearse in from of your English coach and be prepared for criticism.
Good Luck.

Dont think that you're talking to strangers assume they are your friends...also before any such talk do some rehearsal with the help of your friends in your room...ask them to give tips on the places were you are doing mistakes and work on that feedback...after you get used to a few appearances the shyness will automatically vanish...if you still feel the same way attend a personality development course which might be for just a week!! Make your speech as simple as possible dont go for jargons which might sound stylish but wont reach as many people as you think!! All the Best :)

The following are the golden rules to become a good public speaker. First of all jot out all the points you want to speak on a piece of paper. Next never see anybody in the audience face to face but simply beyond them. One thing you should know is that you are the speaker and they are listeners and therefore they will listen to whatever you say whether it is good or bad. Speak clearly and as slow as possible because slow talking will give your mind the time to think what you are going to speak next. One more trick suppose you are not getting words to talk the next sentence . suppose you are not getting words to talk the next sentence then simply repeat the same words like I have done here and then continue with the next sentence because by this time your mind is ready to talk. and you will be talking continuously without giving any idea to the audience that you have forgotten your words. As you keep on talking you will get the courage naturally and you will go on and on without any problems. You can practice in front of a full mirror if necessary. Thats all go ahead . All the best.
