A person who commits no crime -- i.e., a consenting adult in a private place -- is someone who is fit to be a member of congress, senator or president.
Coming out is another matter entirely. That is the personal decision of the individual, a breaking down of a privacy barrier we all should cherish and protect. It is, frankly, no one else's business what other consenting adult(s) are involved in what you do in private. If you choose to tell them, whether by public marriage ceremony or other public declaration, is strictly your business. Being pressured into it for political reasons is wrong.

Minding one's business is what I'd like to see. The current posturing about "Gay Rights" and "Gay Marriage" is pandering. Gay Americans have the same rights as everyone else, except for civil unions. No one is going to make you marry a gay person and giving health care and retirement benefits will not bankrupt this country.

I say what does it matter? I am not gay and am in no way affected by them so. Let them get married give them pensions and benifts that being married gives to the rest of it's citizens. You would figure in this day and age we could move away from any and all forms of prejudice and live as one. We have bigger fish to fry any way, our ellected officials are out of control and being led around by money on a carrot on a stick approach by big buisness.

Um, you might have to get over it. Scientists are finding that the essence of being gay lies squarely in the genes of many species of animals.
Some people are left handed, some favor the right. Blue eyes, brown, requiring corrective lenses . . . athletic, bookish, dresses well . . . DNA.
That's life. It happens.

to the 1st poster: the word is spelled "pedophiles".
why does it matter, exactly? do you *really* think people *choose* to be homosexual? "today, I have decided to become homosexual, lose the right to marry, become despised by most other Americans, have a much lower chance of finding a significant other, and make my life a lot more uncomfortable in general"?
I mean, if anything, criticize someone's religion or political beliefs. at least they can choose those. don't criticize someone on something they're born with.

I knew numerous gays when I was on active duty, only one was worthless, the rest were so good I would never have ratted them out. We are past due to let them folks just live and if they choose toserve in the military then fine.

That's nice... um-Y ? Look we all have issues but not everyone wants to hear about them (these issues that trouble the hearts of the people). Yeah, you're right.Y is that? Not that I dont care, I do care. Maybe the reason these things happen is so you can decide wether to be for them or against them. Touchy subject.

You left out "gays in the churches". I've wondered that, too - what DID happen to "don't ask - don't tell"?

Some day in the far, far future there won't be any closest anymore. But for now, Don't ask, Don't tell, we don't want to know.
