Yes. Rice is a carbohydrate. It is a starch. In other words, it's like eating a kind of sugar. Sugar becomes fat if it is not burned off by exercise.

Asians eat a lot of rice and they do not get fat because they also eat a lot of fish. Also, the calorie content of rice is not huge, so you can eat a lot of it without it having a negative affect. But yes, it does contain calories and will convert to fat if you eat too much of it all the time.

It all depends of what you eat your rice with. Do no mix carbohydrates etc... same applies to pasta. I live in Mauritius where we have a lot of Asian food. A normal family eats rice 3 or 4 times a week and we are not fatter than other people...

YES, eating a lot of Rice (white)can really contribute to your increase in weight as well as white breads and sugar. I'm on a 'no carb' diet now and it works!!! Its only up to you if you can really control yourself from eating it. brown rice is good as well as wheat bread and brown sugar but try to slow down on eating those too... The thing is, carbohydrates are needed for energy, and the more you consume them, the more hungry you get and the more you take in more carbohydrates. Especially if you don't exedrcise, the body will use the carbs you've consumed instead of the stored fats in your body. But if you plan in having a low carb or no carb diet, you should consult your doctor first oki? Good luck!!!

It depends on how it cooked.

Rice is starch, true, but who said we should not eat starch to maintain a healthy weight? Actually, the base of the nutrition paramyd is starch, and we are advised to get 6-11 servings of starch in comparison to only 3-8 vegetables, 2-4 fruits, 2-3 milk, 2-3 meat group & and a little fat.

Speaking in percentages, your carbohydrates should constitute 60% of your diet, the rest will be fat and protein.

Depends on the rice. I don't see a lot of Asians walking around fat even though their ideal food is rice.

Brown rice is better than white rice. Brown rice is healthier and has less calories.

rice will increase your weight if you eat too much of it. the orientals eat high amounts of rice but don't gain weight from it due to the fact that they don't each much red meat, but have high fish and vegetable intake. westerners will gain from eating rice because of their propensity towards eating high calorie foods and also higher starch and carb intakes which isn't the case for most other groups that have rice as a main source of food.

I have read Asians break down the calories from their rice intake because they are accustomed to daily exercise in the course of their workday. In other words, there ain't no free lunch ;)
