Roman paintings can reveal an awful lot to historians. They are a visual primary source evidence of Ancient Roman lifestyle, beliefs and culture. The fresos in Pompeii for example are a great source of evidence to show us what some of the citizens looked like, how their shops were decorated, their status with the Roman world, their sex lives, what their gods/icons looked like to them etc. There are other artistic visual sources such as mosaics which give us an idea of the wealth of a particular family and in some cases we can even see that they comissioned gladiatorial games and which gladiators were used.

Please ask if you require any further information as this is a very in depth subject which reveals an awful lot .
