19, at 18 u stop growing.
if you start before that age you stuff up ur growing patterns.
my bf's 16, has been a body builder for 2 years and is short because he started too early.
you really need to wait until you are about 19 when most of ur growing has stopped and puberty is over.
good luck.

depends how tall u re and how well developed. if u re a bigger than average boy u might start at 12, if u re skinnier and smaller than other boys don't start till 15. bodybuilding slowes down growth of bones, so the earliest recommended age is 12. if u re 12 do not take heavy weight, make it more like a game work out. just to get to know how to use devices and get used to visiting gym. good luck

ps. there was a licensed doctor advicing 16 - that wa swrong, i wonder what country he is licensed for a doctor. if u start too late and u re genetically without muscles u will have no results whatsoever your entire life. my elder son started at 12 (after i consulted a licensed REAL doctor ) it didn't slow his height growth - he is quite tall even for adult, he is only 14 now, muscly and tall. so remember - no heavy weight and everything will be all right. u don't need start REAL bodybuilding at 12. just work with weights

AFTER puberty begins in earnest; e.g. after arm pit hair is clearly visible. Too early and the risk of joint and nerve injury is elevated. Also, too early and the body's response to the weight lifting is negligible.

That guy who talked about armpit hair is right- I started VERY early, and am big now, but I hear that is not good for your bones.
