You must have been sleeping in the same position for long time. This could block the normal blood circulation to your leg or you could have been pressing on to a nerve. It could also mean that you are lacking some vitamins or calcium.
There is other possibility , you may be very tall and skinny in this case you may suffer from muscular weakness. You must eat lots of meat and drink build up milkshakes that can build up muscular firmness which will improve your blood circulation.
Also exercise!!!

Many times that night cramping is due to lack of calcium and magnesium (calcium must have magnesium in order to absorb correctly). I used to wake up screaming because of severe cramps in my legs. Also using a pain relieving cream like "Pain-A-Trate" with Camphor, Menthol and Melaleuca (Tea Tree) oil,. can be very effective in releaving the cramps because Melaleuca Oil is penetrating down to the bone level so besides the surface muscle tissue, it actually goes very deep to the underlying tissue, but I would suggest taking a calcium/magnesium supplement as well as any topical treatmetns. (Pain-A-Trate is available from www.Melaleuca.com and you can get it at wholesale prices. If you'd like to try using their products risk free, let me know and I will give you the Melaleuca information. (lack of space on this site ). Please e-mail me and let me know how you are doing.
Good Luck and Be Well.

You didn't say how old you are and if you are taking other meds. Muscle cramps can mean different things for different people. Taking calcium, potassium, and magnesium supplements could get you into trouble. Bananas and OJ (foods) would be your best bet at this point. If it continues, your Dr. can check these levels and make adjustments.

This problem is due to fast fan, A/C or excessive wind constitution. You can avoid first two easily but third is difficult. If you walk more or do excessive labour you will feel this problem more often. Avoid very hard work and pulses- mainly peas and horsegram.
Regular little exercise, treating constipation with vegitables and salads, Milk and its' ghee will give you relief.

If you are an adult, it may be due to calcium and/or magnesium deficiency. Take a supplement, or eat more dairy products.
If you are under 18, it is normal growing pains. Our bones grow only at night, and that causes the "growing pains" almost everyone feels.

if it is a charlie horse cramp, it is due to the lack of potassium. eat some bananas to help with that. other cramping is due to random muscle spasms. if they persist, and keep you from sleeping, see a doctor, they will help diagnose and treat them.
