I am about 200llbs, 17 and 5' 11. This is really bad. But my parents say that i have to loose atleast 30-40 llbs, and i disagree and tell them 20 llbs max + muscle. Who is right and what should i do to achieve any of these goals? Please help

My husband is 6ft and 185lb and has 12%-14% body fat. He is technically overweight, but his body fat percentage says otherwise.

Worry about your body fat percentage, rather than your weight. I'd say aim to reach at least 18% body fat. I think 15% - 17% body fat would probably be ideal. Remember, the more muscle you have, the less your body fat percentage will be.

This is a very rough estimate, but if you have an average frame size and amount of muscle for your age and height, I'm guessing your lean body mass is somewhere between 140lb-150lb. So basing the calculations on that, you would not need to lose more than 25lb-35lb maximum to reach an ideal 15% body fat percentage. Even less weight loss would be necessary, if you start weight training and adding more muscle mass or if you don't want to drop as low as 15%. If you want to aim for 17% body fat, losing 20lb-30lb would be enough to reach that target.

Good luck : )

u re enormously fat , especially if u re 17 years old. your parents re right, u need to loose 40 llbs and of course u might as well tone muscles. but please keep in mind, that some dumb *** told that when u work out in gym and don't lose weight it means u re gaining muscles toned. this is dumb. do u know how huge muscles do a person need to have to weight more than a fat person? like shwarcenegger. u might not need to worry about that right now. u lose weight first, than u will figure out about gaining muscle mass

You do need to lose weight. Don't start with the total amount as a goal. Just start losing. BE VERY CAREFUL: you must follow a balanced diet and lose the weight slowly. At least 1-2 years. Otherwise you get it back double.
