Keep him in a cage made for parrots, large enough for him to stretch his wings & move around freely. Keep him away from drafts, doors, fans & heater vents. Clean cage & feeding dishes at least once a week. Feed him Lafeber's Parrot Pellets which can be found in feed/pet stores. It's expensive but rich in nutrition & meets their dietary needs & sustains by itself. You should supplement the pellets with fruits, veggies, nuts. Ok to give fruit one day, veggies another, etc. Do not feed him cherries with pit, avocado with pit, no lettuce, no sunflower seed based mix. Sunflower seeds are ok on occasion but not in diet regularly.
There are vitamin supplements you add to their water if you like or if he's a picky eater. Take him to the Vet every 1-2 (or as needed) year to get have beak & nails trimmed. And of course, give him lots & lots of LOVE.

Google. Do a google search for your particular parrot species. Read EVERY page you can find on it. Continue reading every page until everything that you read is a repeat of another page. Then buy a few books and read them as well. Join a few email groups for people with parrots to help answer your questions. That's the quick and easy way to learn.
It is hard to answer this question without further information on your parrot (species, age, etc). Fresh food and water every day is good. Fresh fruits and veggies are good too, but don't leave them in the cage for more than a few hours as they breed bacteria. Having a large enough cage is a MUST, but since we don't know what kind of parrot you have, it's hard to say what's large enough. Some people say as long as the bird can spread it's wings it's large enough, but these creatures spanned MILES a day in the wild. NO cage is large enough.
Socialization time is another requirement. If you every plan to be able to handle your bird or for it to be friendly, you must handle it every day. Go slowly and be persistant. Again, this is where websites and email groups come in handy.
Good luck.

WHY.... Why, did you get a parrot, without knowing HOW to take care of it !?!? When you get a parrot, they're yours, for a LONG long time ! (30 years, and UP ) Please educate your self, or give (sell) it to someone that 'can' take care of it !
The above poster, is right....... start out with a BIG cage, they need that. Get it parrot food, or pellets, make sure it has LOTS of toys that he can chew on, hang from, and make sure you give it lots of attention & love. Pet stores can help you out with the "specifics" of taking care of a parrot, but please.... DO get the information that you need NOW, and all the 'things' that you need for this bird. Look up info online, as well.... for things like what to feed it, and give it... and what NOT to give it, or feed it !

Not being rude but that is something you should have done ALOT of research on before getting. They are extremely expensive. They require large cages, expensive toys to entertain them, expensive pellets, lots of attention, And they can live up to 80 years.
Along with everything else that others have added. They can eat human food. As long as it doesn't contain caffeine, avacados, chocolate, mushrooms, etc.
Also beware of febreeze,burning teflon,incense,hair spray,etc.
I would suggest you research on the computer and read as much as possible.
There are some plants, wood, etc that can be toxic.
PLEASE RESEARCH so you don't end up with a dead, helpless parrot

I would say by selling it, if you bought a parrot & don't know how to look after it, it's better of with somebody else.

Get a book...make sure you keep his wings and claws clipped. Parrots are scared of falling, if he tries to bite when he is picked up drop your arm with him on it just fast enough to make him think he's falling and he will stop trying to bite. If you want to clip his claws and wings yourself throw a dish towel over his eyes to calm him down and use a heavy glove to hold him with. Make sure you do not clip the claws too close or he could start bleeding. Also MAKE SURE that you clip the primary feathers, feather are also like the claws and if you clip them wrong you could cause serious blood loss. I hope this has helped you....
Make sure you get him a good food mixture, they love fruit and nuts.
