I don't think he should be killed.....

Who are we to decide that death should be upon the man.... So many lies came out of this it's almost laughable!!!

Not only that, but this war was something they sold to the world... and the American people went out and bought their videos, their card games, their toys etc.....

Everyone had a piece of the memorabilia....

It was pathetic......

I'm just waiting for Jesus to come home... and correct all these liars!!!...... No small wonder the world is practically destroyed by a war based on lies..... (rev 13).......

I have a problem with the hanging, too. Saddam was hanged because of politics and not because he crossed some line. Every president in our history has been responsible for somebody's death. If the particular president ever got on the wrong side of the power structure, he might get hung, too. In fact, some people on this very site have been crying out for Bush to be tried for crimes against humanity. Now, Bush may have screwed up this war and maybe he should never have gone in, but crimes against humanity??? The political executioners of today may be the political condemned when the political winds change. As such, setting a presedent like hanging Saddam just makes it much more easy to hang someone who probably doesn't deserve it as much. This moderate view being said, it probably makes no difference at all.

I'm for the death penalty, but I honestly think that the court to try Saddam was a joke. It had Shiite judges who naturally had a burning grudge against an old Sunni foe, and the whole thing was set up so that he would be found guilty ( which he is). And remember how God punished David when he comitted adultery? God forgave him, but he still had to pay the price. In the same way, if you kill someone, that person's family members can forgive the murderer, but by law and justice, he still needs to reap what he sows. In my opinion, Saddam should be hanged a thousand times even if he was given a fair trial. I still wished he could be saved though. just the knowlegde that somebody is going to Hell is unbearable.

P.S.: Shiite Muslims carried out the sentence, so I really didn't have a chance to show compassion to the Arab world.

This is a tough one, because I feel the same way you do on many points. But I don't think you realize that the same scriptures you have quoted to me apply also to him. He may die by the very sword he lived by. We are talking about justice. He needs to be accountable for what he has done.
It is not our place to condemn people, but we are allowed to judge for ourselves what is right and what is wrong. If I did what he did, and came to my senses and asked for forgiveness, I would be glad for forgiveness, but I would expect to die for what I had done. I haven't seen him repent.
It is okay to forgive him, even though he has not asked for forgiveness, do it for yourself. But know that the innocent blood shed by him will not be passed over. God said 'Revenge is mine, I will repay!'
Sometimes as Christians, we get so hung up on doing what we think 'Christians ought to do', that we become doormats and turn a blind eye to evil.
God established the justice system and it is out of our hands.
Yes, we need to show love and compassion to the Arab world, especially the ones right here in our own country.
But, 'love' sometimes means being bold and strong and standing up for what is right.
This is a hard situation. Pray about it and I will too. God has an answer.

Hi, I am Rational Spirituality,

Therefore not an orthodox Christian, but on this one I support you in full.

This guy is accused of having "murdered" (executed in his perception) over a hundred people due to an attmept on his life. His trial was unfair, and the whole world saw it.

On the other side sit two guys who for no other reason than greed sanctioned the bombing of cities and whole communities in which thousands of inncocent women and children died, and they are not sitting in the dock for murder! They think they are the gods.

There is no justice on Earth, but there is infallible Divine justice. God should judge everyone, and he will.

Death penalty is a barbaric act reflecting thirst for blood. Hate creates only more hate, and bitterness. Progress cannot be achieved from hate and cruelty.

God ordained every authority there is on the face of this Earth to dispense justice. Says so in the Bible.

This being the case - these secular stations of authority who decide life and death do so where as we ourselves are not permitted to. Our only judgment sits in the Church itself - not the world.

It looks like Saddam lived by violence - thus it maybe that he dies in violence (live by the sword, die by the sword).

What ever justice the Iraqi judicial system gives to Saddam will be in accordance to the will of God. i.e., its out of our hands, as it should be, and into the proper authorities that have been appointed. I assure you that t he Iraqi courts are not aware of the depths I am telling you - nor most nations - but that's the way it is.

When the pharisees tried to trap Jesus, they asked Him if He should pay tribute to Caesar who is ruling the land of Israel during those time. So Jesus showed them a coin at that time and asked whose image was on that coin before He made an remarkable statement. Pay to Caesar what belongs to Casesar and pay to God what belongs to God.

If saddam were to accept the Lord as His savior, saddam basically is acknowledging that Jesus had bore all his sins and before God, saddam has nothing to pay to God anymore.

But unfortunately (or fortunately for some people) saddam has to pay the people he offended on earth.

Mercy is from God and not from men. God choose to show mercy but not all men will choose to show mercy.

If you want to show Christ's compassion to the Arab world, show it by sharing with the Arab world what Christ has done for them.

Be wise and shalom.

The Iraq people made this choice and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of the death penalty.........they will carry it out anyway.

Personally the death penalty makes me squeamish.

One thing is certain. Saddam will die a less agonizing death than the people he murdered.

I think this question is for all specially for muslims as sadam killed thousand of muslims without any reason. just see in Iran,. Kuwait, Kurd, and lots of shia Muslims were killed by him. So do u think he he should be given any mercy? What I think sadam and bush both should be hanged as both have killed thousands of Iraqis and muslims.
Bye the way arab world is not unhappy of this penalty. They are equally happy as all the other world is
U can fogive one killer of one guy but u cant forgive a killer of millions of humans

Its not a matter of what we want...its a matter of what Iraqi law is.

Iraqi law states death by hanging.

The Bible also states to follow the laws of the land. Meaning to follow the laws of the government and land you live in. They are doing just that. And being the old land of Babylon...they are doing exactly like they did when Jesus walked this earth.

Eye for an eye.
