I doubt you have a catalytic converter, but if you did I would suspect is being clogged up. You can check for Oxygen sensors also. Try replacing the air, petrol, and other filters. Make sure you have the proper size and inflation on your tires. Be sure that there aren't any loose or missing Vacuum tubes. Have your brakes inspected, and have fresh fluids put in. You say you changed the spark plugs? Did you replace the ditributor cap, and Rotor, along with the Plug wires? If your wires haven't been replaced they could have to much resistance, causing a dull spark, which doesn't help combustion very well. Check these things out and keep the rubber side down.

Yes automatic cars use more fuel. Each driver drives differently some out on the road in high gear others caught in traffic around town in second gear. Your mileage may vary. Clean filters properly inflated tires and yes even a wax job to slick up the car helps. Did you visit the Nissan Garage yet? Nissan Technicians have better diagnositc tools. And car age can be a factor here How many KM's on the odometer? Run a compression test all the cyls' should test above 140 psi to 180 psi and across all four not vary more than 18 psi. Good Luck

Keep the car tuned up, keep your foot out of the gas, check your air in your tires, clean all filters, and the list can go on and on... There are a lot of reasons some cars can get such different mileage... it is also all in how the driver drives... (drive it hard or like a grandma etc...)
My V6 Nissan Maxima (2000) averages around 23 to 25-mpg (highway and city mix) but I keep it well tuned and don't get into the gas a lot, unless it is really needed to keep from getting run over.
Also, if you have a lot of extra weight in your car that can make your MPG go down as well...

Mmm
This is a page about conversion.

Looks like you are only getting 10 to 15 mpg here.
This does sound really bad.
Here is someone else with a similar issue

It sounds like you are not alone !

the best gas milage is gotten by using the brain a little more than the foot .don't drive like a jack rabbit .the car doesn't control the speed you do.
