I've been sick now for about a week and tomorrow night I have an important social event that I've been looking forward to and planning for MONTHS! But I am sick, I can't go 5 minutes without either sneezing or coughing or blowing my nose. In fact my nose is running constantly and tomorrow night I'm going to be all dressed up and don't want to be feeling terrible and sorry for myself.
Any cures or even just something I can do to make it possible to not have to bring 2 tissue boxes with me?

You could take a cough suppressant or a decongestant. Echineacea is an herb that really works well for fighting infection. This may sound gross but what I use when I feel like I'm getting sick is raw garlic. I crush up some raw garlic and swallow it without chewing it just swallow it like a pill with some water. I bet if you took it every 2 hours all day, you would feel a lot better. It really works. Just bring alot of gum. I usually get sinus infections real bad where I'll be sick for 2 to 3 weeks but when I first feel it coming on I take just one clove of garlic and I never end up getting sick.

Have you taken alkaseltzer cold or benadryl at night to dry you up and help you sleep? A nice hot shower and take some hot tea and honey. I'd be taking whatever works for me...you surely have used over the counter drugs before. What works? Tried Theraflu, the hot stuff you drink? You'll have to have an antihistamine for tom. night, something like /Sudafed, non drowsy or something but, I'd have started it sooner to get better by now. Good luck. Hope you feel better. Call a friend or family member and ask them to bring you something. Chicken soup is the Jewish penecillin. It has an ingredient or chemical in it that does help colds. Drink all you can between now and then too. Vitamin C wouldn't hurt.

See if you can get some Sudafed (pseudoephedrine)

The real stuff with the pseudoephedrine is a little hard to get in Australia now. In response to gangs buying it up in bulk and cooking it to make speed the chemists are now obliged to ask for identification and your first born child etc. and also the company that made it has a bunch of other similar things out with antihistamines and such. They work too, but not quite as good as the original.

Try honey and lemon, breathing steam and all that stuff, but pseudoephedrine is the stuff you want,

Find a product that will clear your sinuses such as sudafed and that should clear the head for a couple of hours. You might want to take some throat soothing lollies to suck on which will help suppress a cough.

There is a medicine called Zicam (there's another one similar to it called Cold M.D., or something like that I think). It is supposed to shorten the duration of the cold, and even prevent it before it fully starts. It works really well, I use it. But you are supposed to take it at the first sign of symptoms. You could try taking it and see if it helps at this stage.
