Neither is "better". They all serve basically the same function, that being the enforcement of the laws of the state and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
The difference comes only in the jurisdiction served. City Police serve within the boundries of a city. Sheriffs and their Deputies serve within the boundries of a county (including the cities within their county). State Police or Highway Patrolmen serve within the boudries of the entire state (including all counties and cities within the state).
Therefore, the State Police or Highway patrol have more jurisdiction than Sheriffs, who in turn have more jurisdiction than the City Police Departments.

I personally like a Police Department better. I work with law enforcement and the variety of issues you get to deal with in a city PD is usually better than chasing speeders and DUI's all day with the highway, or chasing cattle with the sheriffs dept. Some cities the sheriff has the same duties as a PD. As far as hating any, I can't say I hate any dept specifically just egotistic officers.

All three serve different functions in keeping us safe. Police and sheriff's departments investigate and try to stop crime while highway patrol helps to make interstate highways safer. Personally, I don't think any one is better than the others, all are important parts of keeping our lives safe.

That would depend on whether I'm in the city and need police, in the county and need a deputy sheriff, or on the highway and need a patrolman. The question is moot. They all serve different purposes.

NONE. The sheriff is a fat lard who just sits around in his car or in his office sipping coffee, the police dept. are either bad cops (racists) or never listen to anybody, and the highway patrol pick on the people who look foreign or cars they don't like instead of catching the ferrari that's speeding by at 90.

a police rigidity is a small municipality, a sheriff is the county's, a trooper is a state government, and an fbi agent is a federal government. with a view to diminish down on corruption, advance performance, and shield extra crimes, they divide the responsibilities. evaluate that in case you have been having an attack case, then it would take lots longer for the submitting in a federal branch than it would in an area. see additionally that organizing something that good sized is prohibitively costly, if each little thing have been based in DC? we would be snarled. so it makes extra sense to divide the exertions, make distinctive agencies in charge for various issues.

Highway Patrol generally gets the elites. Sheriffs get the dregs. I don't hate any of them, but I don't particularly TRUST them either.

Sheriff's have to deal w/ all BS of all kinds within their county......doesn't sound like a fun job at times.
Local police.....deal with kids on mopeds....someone who stole some gum.....some guy who hit his wife....again...doesn't sound too fun.
Highway patrol.....to be given one of the fastest production cars on the planet that can even catch 1100cc motorcycles....OH BABY GIVE ME THE KEYS.
Wanted to be a state boy from 18 and even dream of it now at times...just one problem....not a fan of guns.

state police. they are usually better trained, and get paid more. i know several of them very well, so i have to pick them. all law enforcement are good. seems like deputies are more layed back and friendly. city police are fast paced and nervous.
i would never hate anyone is law enforcement. they are our friends :)

i don't hate any law enforcement officer, they all have a job to do, just in different parts of a state. their purpose is to uphold the laws of that state and to protect and serve the people. it seems that i detect that someone has had a problem with law enforcement.
