I recently found out that my utility bills were still under my name after we broke up. My ex moved into a new place and had my name transferred to her new address..Unbelievable. I found this out since I got a bill of $600 total from the utility companies. I ofcourse filed a dispute. What measures should I take? Should I file a police report? What measures will the utility companies take? Would they make her pay? I am just really furious upon this situation and for her to put me in this situation.

Did you cancel the utilities when you broke up? If your g/f was listed as a co-user on your account then the utility company has the right to talk to her regarding arrangements for the bills. When the account with the utility company was set up you would have had to put her name on the account as a co-user. Unless she had someone impersonate you to get the utilities moved to a new residence, which would be fraud, it would be up to you to remove her name from your account as a co-user. I am not dismissing what she has done but simply trying to explain how this could have happened. (I worked in the credit and customer service dept for a large utility company for years).

Look, you made a big mistake. Now just swallow it and move on, it's not worth fighting over and getting all steamed up. Right now $600 may seem like a fortune, but I bet that's not the last mistake you will ever make.

oh boy ! you really left yourself wide open for this. surely when you were together the bills came in your name. did you think someone would just change it for you? i don't know what the laws are in your part of the world but you may just have to wear it !(the bill is after all in YOUR name). from someone who has been shafted in all manner of ways by my ex i wish you all the best. put it down to experience and MOVE ON.

This is a form of fraud. Tell her that she better pay it off AND get it out of your name immediately or you will file a police report and press charges.
