and when I talk to strangers who is older than me..should I use tu or usted?

Means: How old are you? Yes, when speaking to an elder, use usted, unless they tell you it's ok to use tu.

How old are you? that's the meaning, and in spanish if you're talking with an older person is better that you use the usted word, is for respect.

Cuantos = how many
anos = years
usted = you (formal)
tiene = have

In spanish that's how they ask, how old are you?

¿Cuántos años tiene usted? (formal way for elder people, or someone you respect, or you don't know well...)

¿Cuántos años tienes? (informal, young people, someone u have confidence and u know well)

Both sentences means how old are you?

how old r u or how many years do u have and ud/uds is used for people you are not familiar with as well
