I agree with all the posts about baby gap, they have the cutest stuff! I would also suggets Old Navy, it's slightly less expensive than Gap and has really cute stuff these days. Ralph Lauren stuff is great and it lasts...I bought it for my oldest and the hand me downs are on my third daughter! If you have stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls or Nordstrom Rack they've always got great designer stuff for less money. I've also had luck at Carsons Department Store for Polo stuff. (I'm in the Chicago area)

I love the Baby Gap store. It has very stylish clothing. But also pricey.

JC Penny's carries the brand name called "Carter's" They also have very cute clothes. I have seen a Carter's store in an outlet strip mall before. This is a baby/child frienly store. All clothing just for the little ones. Average prices for the clothes at JC Penny's in comparison to other clothing items at other stores.

You could try yard sales. It doesn't always sound appealing but I have several freinds that had tons of clothes given to them and they sold them all at yard sales with the tags still on for dirt cheap prices. Lots of people get "gifts" of clothing for their kids that just aren't their taste and this is how they get rid of them and how the rest of us save money AND get awsome clothes.
