I like this question rarely do people care to ask what type of beans are used to make refried beans. Usually Pinto beans is the name of the beans used, however black, garbanzo, even Lima beans work for refrying. I love refried beans the Lima ones taste different when fried. Pinto or any kind of beans. See recipe in link. Refried is the way the beans are cooked, not what type of bean it is. I am not kidding, I have probably had refried beans that are three different kinds of beans. Pinto beans I know is one of them. I'm not sure what kind of bean the most common refried bean is like a brand name. Probably Pinto beans is one of the most common.
