As far as monthly payment, it's not much. With food stamps, subsidized housing and disability, you can have enough to live on.

I am drawing Social Security Disability for my Bi-polar for almost 20 years now.. It doesn't pay much however it is better than nothing. Bipolar disorder is the severest form of depression and I have a difficult time dealing with my illness. It does take time to get it so don't get discouraged if you get denied the first time. Keep trying.

I am 24 and have been on it for years now. You really dont know how long it will take to get... some people waited years and some were even denied. I got mine in less then 6 months. Anyways the monthly checks are not livable on. But the pros about it is that pretty much all medical is free and you can get food stamps and also get help on housing. Lots and lots of paper work to! But if someone truly cannot work and needs the help then it will all be worth it in the end.

Hi, I have been receiving SS benefits due to my uni-polar disorder.
I had to hire attorneys, because of their rush job in denying my first application. They did not even check my medical records accurately! I understand the first denial is common practice.
It did take me almost two years total before I received due compensation, although it has been helpful in the long run.

I know 2 people who have. There's alot that goes along with it though. And I'm sure you know it doesn't pay much. It may be more beneficial to find a way to work with your disorder.
