everybody on this page will tell you: get in the sun.

being a chemist, i'll tell you otherwise!
yes, the sun can make your hair lighter temporarily, but what happens when you stay out of the sun after that?

the chemicals and cells in your hair will react and turn lighter, but once you start spending less time in the sun, your hair will become darker than it originally was due to the fact that the color in your hair will seem faded for a while, and then grow back darker.

sun exposure overall isn't good for hair anyway. it dries it out and makes it dull.

naturally, there aren't many ways to color your hair lighter. try things like panteen color enhancer. it will bring out a stronger color in your natural hair. it took my hair from a one-color dark blonde to a lighter, bouncy beach blonde nd i loved it. it's just a shampoo and conditioner.

also: don't try to use lemon juice or other acids on your hair. i cant tell you how many times i've seen this been done an people damages their poor hair.

The only natural thing is your natural hair color.

Sun will make it a little lighter but for me it doesn't do much.

The only natural way to lighten your hair is to stay in the sun which will only slightly lighten/highlight your hair. Dark hair usually starts to pull some red highlights and blonde hair will become lighter/brighter and dryer.

Never use lemon juice, never spray peroxide on your hair, never use sun-in. These products will ruin your hair. They will strip the oil out of your hair making it appear dull and lifeless. It will also turn your hair red/orange, if your hair is dark. Dark hair tends to pull red highlights.

If you must lighten your hair get it professionally done. I should know....I'm a Cosmetologist!

If I want natural highlights to come out, I spray a little Sun-In on my hair when I get out of the shower, comb it through, leave it in, and then style my hair like I normally would. Sun-In lightens your hair naturally even if you don't sit out in the sun. I have naturally dry curly hair, so usually a few days after using Sun-In, I will deep condition my hair by glooping on lots of conditioner and sitting under the dryer.

Whatever you do, dont listen to the "chemist". She is just that, a chemist and not a hairstylist. The only natural way to lighten your hair is the sun. When your hair grows back, it doesnt grow back darker. It grows back your natural color. There are natural products you can use to color you hair, like henna. But henna cant lighten your hair. In order to lighten your hair, you will need to use a product that lifts color. Like a high lift brown, if you have brown hair or a high lift blonde for blonde hair. Or you can bleach your hair.

Naturally... I don't think there's a NATURAL way besides spending more time in the sun.
I mean, there are products you can use that gradually make your hair lighter but it's not exactly NATURAL so I'm not too sure sorry love!!

Wet hair in the sun. Dry hair won't lighten. You can spray a little peroxide on it and when you sunbathe, this will bring out highlights that look natural. No sun? try a lemon juice rinse and let it dry on your hair, it will lighten it subtlely, and more over time.
