My GF and I are looking for a warm place to go for NYE. We live in Chicago, and were thinking somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico would be nice. Don't want to stay in a dump, but don't want to spend a fortune either...

It seems that myself, family and friends have all found really good luck with vacationing in Dominican Republic. It is very reasonable in terms of money.

I'm not sure if you're more of a resort-person, or more independant, but this country offers many plays to stay for both choices.

I personally stayed in this little German-owned bed and breakfast in Sosua (20 minute car ride from Puerto Plata), and it was gorgeous. We were right by the beach.

My mother and stepfather, though, stayed in a resort, where you hardly have to leave the grounds, and they loved that experience as well.

It all depends on what kind of travel experience you want.

Either way, I HIGHLY recommend Dominican Republic.

Bermuda was really fun and very relaxing.
We stayed at the Fairmont Southampton Princess hotel in Southampton. It was beautiful. Even though it was not right on the water, it had it's own private beach and a trolley to take you there. Wherever you choose to go, I hope you have a wonderful vacation!! :)

Cancun is HANDS DOWN the winner here. DO NOT stay in the city though. Look at the all inclusive resorts south of the city. I cannot stess it enough. I will retire there someday. I is increadble and doesnt cost alot.

You will be traveling during prime tourist season time, so expect to pay higher prices. Cancun is always nice, but very touristy. However, I personally prefer Panama.
