It sounds to me as though your hands are severely chapped. That's why they are red. When you put lotion on chapped hands, it burns pretty bad until you get them healed. If they don't turn red until you put the lotion on, then you are reacting to the lotion and you need to stop using it.
Either way, try something without a fragrance. It is typically the fragrance that bothers chapped hands and/or causes allergic reactions.

All of the above ideas will work fine -- you obviously have an allergy to an ingredient in the lotion, or perhaps soap, or dish detergent..... On the off chance that it is a bit more, buy a tube of Desenex. My mom had that. plus her hands itched. Her hands were red, and even bled. She stopped the exposure to dish detergents and lotions, and used this product. True, there are several things that she stopped doing and started doing, but hey, the redness cleared up, the itching stopped, and her hands healed. So, was it the Desenex, the dish detergent for the hand lotion????? She didn't care... try all of this, hon.

My sister in laws hands do this too. She started using Corn Huskers Lotion & it stopped. You might try it & see if it will work for you too. She says it makes her hands feel real good whereas other lotion would burn & make her hands burn. Here's a link for it so you can see what it looks like. And the cost is not bad.

Sounds like you may have some type of allergic reaction going on or a contact dermatitis. I use petroleum jelly rather than lotions when my hands do this. As long as I use hypoallergenic products and stay away from latex gloves, my hands heal on their own..
Good luck..

It sounds like you are allergic to the synthetics in lotion. Try using an all natural product. One of the best I know of you can find at smooth-n-sassy.com
