JP is right. Without knowing what is making you cough, it is difficult to prescribe something. Best to go to the doctor.
Having said that, the most common form of persistent cough is caused by post-nasal drip. Post-nasal drip is mucous that drips onto the back of the tongue, causing the throat tickling and sympathetic coughing. Less common types of coughing come are bronchial, based on inflammation of the lungs.
To combat post-nasal drip, it is easiest to just take a ephedra-based antihistimine pill like pseudoephedrine. If you insist on drinking something, then you can take ma-huang. However, only take it in the morning because ma-huang contains ephedrine - which will juice you up like a caffeine.
IMHO, best to just pop the pseudofed. Harmless if it doesn't work. Cheap. Works quickly.

I've heard you should drink lemon juice from a squezzed lemon (not the kind from a bottle). I think that helps. Anything like hot tea should help. I heard milk is bad to drink when you have a cough. =)

you've made a good start with tea. If you know of any natural food type stores in your area it's not hard to find herbal throat supplement teas but if you don't want that I would go with a flavor called Mango Ceylon, it's one of my favorites, hope you get rid of your cough
