I'm asking because of a magazine article that I read saying that guys actually like to date single moms because they're independant, have jobs and money and a place of their own, have a life besides the guy, and don't play 'head games' because they don't 'have time to fool around' with relationship drama.

Is this true? I really would have thought that single guys would run scared from single moms.

Some guys may be afraid of instant parent hood and avoid single moms. That is good because you don't have to weed them out.

Some guys think that it is obvious that she isn't a virgin, and she might give it up easier. It does not take long for you to weed them out.

Some guys are really impressed that you can juggle a family and job and be on top of it. These guys see you as an asset. You know the value of a dollar and you know that material things do not guarantee happiness. These guys are keepers, just like you.

Sorry to say but I think the opposite is true, we tend to avoid single moms. That's especially the case if the guy already has experience dating single moms.
Personally I don't avoid them but at the same time I know it makes it harder so I'm more apprehensive about it. Not because I hate kids or look down on her but if you're being realistic about it, kids will make every part of dating more complicated.

The most important thing to find out is if she can make time for you and the kid(s). Not just at first either(because most will at first) but also once the relationship has progressed a little. If she has 100% custody, young kid(s), and no free baby-sitter then there's almost no chance it will work. If she has free baby sitting or shared custody - maybe. Although the father still being in the picture will have it's own set of headaches.

I would say that the younger the man, the less likely he is going to be attracted to a single mom. Older guys have grown up a little bit and might be more inclined to consider single moms. Factors that would decrease a single mom's ability to attract and keep a guy interested:
1) the number kids she has; more than one might be too much for some guys
2) how old the child(ren) is/are; teenagers are a handfull.
3) what kind of a relationship the mom has with the father
4) how she handles her child(ren); if they are out of control, ill mannered, and disrespectful, he might back off.

Some do but highly quality men usually avoid women like this because other people's kids (even if they're good kids) are just annoying and expensive. Then you have to deal with the baby daddy. I would date a single mom but would never get serious nor marry one. I would let her know my intentions ahead of time and not lead her on. If she was wanting casual dating and a man who doesn't want to meet her kids then great but I'm not in it for the long haul. I don't want to raise someone else's kids.

Yes they do date us single moms! And you're right, we don't have time for the normal drama that a lot of couples deal with. We just want someone to go have fun with, get away from it all with, etc. We're not all out there looking for a "daddy". I'm quite the opposite. They don't meet my son until I know if they're going to be around for a while. No sense in putting my son through any drama either!

They do not date single moms. They date the whole family. And most guys do not want to get involved with someone else's problems. But there are some that enjoy it. A single mom will think twice about moving in with a guy. This allows the guy more freedom.

Co-dependent guys like to feel needed. Co-dependent guys are seriously attracted to single moms because they think they can help them. Be wary of these kinds of guys. As a rule though. Many good guys like dating single moms for the very reasons mentioned in your magazine. I never understood a single mom that thought that because she had a child no one would date her. Most guys are ready to jump right in there and take on any responsibility involved in that type of relationship.

Single Sluts? Nope, Guys like me refuse to date a single mother. Why?
(1) I do not want to be responsible for another man's kids.
(2) plus why would she be dating somebody who doesn't love or respect her?
(3) women always go for the men who does not care about them. So why should they have the nerve to be looking for a good man if they should have did that in the first place?
(4)LAST - you don't know if they're EX's is one of those men who are those asswhole who makes threats to you or try to treat you as if you are inferior to him.

My best advice to all men out there, stay away from single mothers those sluts are dangerous.

My husband took a chance and moved to where I am from 1500 miles away without really knowing what I looked like and I had a child. We now love and adore each other and are married. We also have another child together. Yes, men do date single women, but you have to find the right guy.
