If you badly cheat an atheist, he will be upset. He appeals to a natural moral law that he expects everyone, including the cheater to know and obey. "That's not right, or that's not fair" are acknowledgements that there is a standard of right and fair that everyone should know. It is not subjecive in moments like that. Moral law is very absolute at times like these. The atheist demands justice. Blind to his own behavior that well establishes the natural moral law common to man, he then says morals are subjective. He bullsh*ts himself. A hedonist likes to say morals are subjective because if morals are relative then there are no morals at all. Punch him in the nose and suddenly morals become absolute again.

There is something called the Social Contract that helps people figure out what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in society. Murder and Rape arent okay in normal society. But murder is totally okay in War. And rape is okay if you're in a country where women aren't valued the same way as men. This is where the subjective part comes in.
The point is that Morality is never black and white. You say civilized people all agree that murder and rape are wrong. I beg to differ. Ask a war Veteran if he's killed anyone.
Atheists believe that life came from primordial goo that was created when the right combination of protiens got together. Many scientists back them up.
Many modern day Pagans believe in Evolution as well, but we believe that the Primordial Goo was part of the Goddess.

Well, we intend to hang Hussein. Is that a moral thing to do? Hmmm.
Here's the thing. You are trying to impose your western values upon a world that may or may not share them. Just because you have a particular set of morals, or better stated, values, doesn't mean crap.
If you were to consider history, rape and murder were a way of life for certain cultures, and important for the preservation of the species.
While that might seem distasteful to you today, and while our society does not condone those activities, situations change, and there might indeed be conditions once again where that kind of stuff becomes "moral."
Stop worrying about it, and be glad you live in the times and society you do.
We do not need to keep having these kinds of discussions on this board.

I'm not an Atheist, but they have the same basic morality as everyone else. Laws against murder and rape are inherent, and not introduced by religion. Singapore, for example is heavily atheist, and they have extremely strict laws against murder and rape. Singapore also has one of the the lowest crime rate of any nation in the world.
Laws of nature were NOT created by man...whoever said it was is a fool.

Hayden is saying that all Christians are immoral because of the immoral acts of some Christians. By saying that,he is also saying,in essence, that all atheists are immoral because of the immoral acts of some atheists.
I say we can't judge a group of people by the acts of a few people who go against what they believe. I don't judge all atheists to be bad people because someone who calls themself an atheist goes on a murdering spree. The same goes for Christians. They shouldn't be judged as being all bad because someone who calls themself a Christian goes on a murdering spree. It is stereo-typing at its worst, and completely unfair to any group of people. Everyone needs to "clean up their own backyard" before passing judgement on anyone.

I don't quite understand. Why did those laws have to "come from" anywhere? Are you saying that without God, mankind wouldn't have any way of knowing that murdering and raping are wrong? I'm pretty sure humans are intelligent enough to figure that stuff out on their own.

Atheists are Atheists. They only represent less than 16% of world religions. Atheists are "religious" people in their own way except they do not believe in "a god". Science does not and cannot explain that to them. There are bad atheists just as there are bad muslims or christians.

I must disagree with your premise that "Civilized people all agree that Murder and rape are evil." I think it is evident in looking at this country's failure to protect children from molestation and the widely accepted and even promoted practice of abortion clearly states a secularist's view on these subjects.

Murder and rape are bad. I know the difference between good and bad, without god or the bible telling me. If the bible said it was ok to murder would that make it ok? Would that make it good? Of course not. If no one in the world believed in any god, or there was no bible, people would still know the difference between right and wrong.
