Congress though it was too expensive and wanted to cut and run which Thomas Jefferson reluctantly agreed too. That just created multiple battles that lasted for eleven years. Right now the liberal press is calling 3 1/2 years a quagmire. Thomas Jefferson, like Bush, didn't have nice words to say about the Muslims. The U.S. also had to go it alone since the Europeans would rather pay the pirates off.

Are you asking about the wars against the Barbary Pirates?

Other than both wars are/were not against Nation States and they were/are against Moslems. The Barbary Pirates were attempting to enforce their system of tribute (extortion) to sail the high seas, The war against Islamic Terrorists is against stateless groups that want to bring back the Caliphate and force all nonMuslims into dhimmitude.

Alot of similarities, they are both terrorists though the Barbary pirates were motivated by greed and not religous fanaticism.
