Forms are crucial to any true martial art. This is where your fighting skills are developed. Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that they have survived all these centuries?
I'm not sure I followed everything you said here.
Some people think that they know more than thoses who haved trained for decades & studied with other who trained for decades. These grasshoppers have much to learn.

The main aspect of majority of martial arts is not just learning what your sensei or teacher taught you. Its about self progress, your YOU time and amount of training you do ... well and of course it depends on what kind of martial art you do. If its capoeira then, it looks good, yeah, pumps you up, but not too reliable in the real deal fight.

if you keep training ... you should get somewhere. Size does matter in a fight ... muscles win over techniques .... until you reach the point where you become fast and your mind is clear. Then at that point you will be in advantage. So keep training

Good luck

I have done various styles and had a ot of experience in my time. I sweated for years perfecting myself.

I taught my younger cousin a few simple yet effective moves. just one day of training a few techniques...
About a year after this day he got into trouble and was attacked by a guy, he got hit, but as the guy came at him a second time my cousin used one of these attacks and dropped the bigger guy into a heap on the floor and they had to call the ambulance.

he got off charges based on self defense.

now I ask you this: I trained for 20 years on and off to teach him in one day what saved his ass. what was the point of all those years?

well at least I knew what worked, and didnt teach my cousin the crap. things do have their places, but too much time is wasted on techniques that you will never use.

too many instructors love the mystery they create... in X years you will understand the grandmasters move (crap)

too much time spent going through wasted motions. I wouldnt turn back the clock, but my son will be doing things differently.
