Yeah, yeah, I painted the stupid thing, finished it early Saturday morning. But I'm serious with the question here because I don't stay up on whatever art movement or popular 'styles' are out there now. If someone where to ask me I wouldn't have a clue as to what category to put this style of painting in or what to call this.

Here's the link (you can click on the image to enlarge it):

And I thank you in advance for any knowledgable replies.

Sunshine, I can already post as many paintings as I wish for free with my Live Journal account. And Live Journal has it's own in-house art communities where you can post your work.

Well Wats, it's not abstract, it's maybe a little surrealistic, but not in the traditional sense... impressionism is more a technique than a genre... and it ain't realism.

So I'd call it Illustrative. Maybe even Conceptual. Maybe a Conceptual Illustration.

And - there's nothing new out there, style category-wise. Why not invent one? It's high time somebody did!

So Wats - what is your style? Where ya gonna go?

There are 4 styles in art:

Realism, Impressionism, Representational, and Expressionism (Objective or non-objective abstraction).

The painting you're talking about is absolutely Expressionist. Bold linear patterning, black and white coloring, and object distortion is evident.

However, I don't seem to clarify what I am looking at. I know what a Delta is, but I just can't figure out if those are buildings on the side, or something like that.

Al in all, if you are able to identify objects in an Expressionist work of art, then it falls under Objective Abstraction. However, if the subject matter is unidentifiable, then it falls under Non-Objective Abstraction.

Hope that helps!

I would classify it as an illustration.

You can post your work for free at www.aboslutearts.com. You can post 4 pieces and an artist bio free, and they will forward emails. I have 40 pieces up and that type of portfolio is only $36 a year.

You can also post at www.artfaceoff.com for free.

Why in hell am I getting a thumbs down rating for this answer?

Jeez.

This seems to be (by the title and the drawing) to be an abstraction.

I would consider it abstract, because it doesn't look realistic. It's good.
