It takes me 2 hours to get my toddler to fall asleep for his nap. I put him down at 1 and he will not fall asleep until 2.30- 3.00. (it doesnt matter if i take all distraction away from him, he just talks to himself and sings) Falling asleep so late means he doesnt wake up unit 4.30 - 5.00 which is too late. I know he still needs his nap, because if he misses it he is so grumpy.
I have noticed nap time has been a disaster ever since daylight saving came in.

No Chocolate or caffiene in the AM,
Make sure you are getting him up early enough in the morning (between 7-8am), keep his room dark,(no direct sunlight), and a great final touch....soft music CD on low volume.(Make sure to have it set to repeat.

I had absolutely no luck getting my son to nap before 2:30-3 either. I tried, it seems like forever. I finally gave up and started the nap rituals (reading a book, etc) at 2 pm. When I did that, he cooperated and was asleep by 2:30-2:45. I made sure to not let him sleep past 5 pm. This made bedtime between 8:15-8:30. I know it's later, but he sleeps longer at night with this schedule. Now he sleeps for at least 11-12 hours. He used to only sleep for 9-10 hours in a row at night. It just seems like his natural nap time is 2:30-3. It is so nice to not have to fight with him to take a nap. I do have him do a quiet activities with me after lunch and I let him watch TV between 1:30 and 2. So that gives him a little down time. Incidentally, I gave him the choice of sleeping in his room, or our family room (which is actually darker during the day, than his room). He always chooses the family room and I think he feels safer that way. Good luck!

I at the instant have a 2 3/4 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous boy. He would not choose a snooze to get him in the process the day, yet I provide him a a million a million/2 hour nap between 3 and 4pm. At night I placed somewhat one gate up so he won't be in a position to run all in the process the residing house. And he's familiar with to no longer climb the gate. There are days while a snooze would not greater healthful into the schedule of the day, regardless of if it would not look to difficulty him. coach him that he needs to sleep in his very own mattress. in case you do no longer enable him snoozing on your mattress, the 1st week or 2 could be tough, yet he will ultimately get the belief. placed somewhat nightlight or a television with photograph yet no sound in his room could additionally help.

daylight saving is not the problem, more than likely it is the warmer weather. I knw weather changes effect my children's sleeping habits, particularly nap time.

If he won't sleep then make sure he has some quiet time, give him some books, or put a movie on, or cuddle time, or let him sit in bed and talk to himself. I know it isn't the same as sleeping, but eventually this will pass and he will go back to sleeping during the day. This quiet time works really well when mine decide not to nap.

Have you heard the saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink", sounds like this to me.

I know it is not ideal, but once he gets used to the warmer weather things should settle down a bit. Another thing you can try is relaxation music.

Does your son have time to play out his energy before his nap?..Like do you take him to the park..run around with him?...What time does he wake up?..maybe, he is simply not tired when you put him down. Leaving him there for 0ver 2 hours seems somewhat excessive. So basically..his day is spent being made to sleep?..
Just like you or me..kids can not be forced to sleep when they are not tired. let him stay up abit longer..there is no sense making him stay in the room for so long..poor guy!..let him play more....make sure he gets lots of time to run around outside with you..make sure he is not hungry..read him stories before nap..put on soft music..

My little bou grew out of his naps at quite an early age so I just didn't bother trying and then he usually went to bed early in the evening. You could try laying with him and reading stories
